I find it funny how kerebros forums went down exactly when this whole debacle happened.

Not unexpected; the whole team had been pushing endless hours for the last two weeks, knowing they couldn't delay any longer, and then they collapsed as one. Nobody was around to keep things going. Very small outfit, just over a dozen people when fully staffed.

They've certainly got their work cut out for them, but they do have a solid reputation, and aren't release-and-run types like some I could name.

Seems like a good how not to guide. While I believe Paradox and Kerberos will patch this thing to usefullness... well, it is a let down and will probably hurt both the companies involved and, more importantly, the genre.

I believe this might be good for Codeforce, but on the other hand you guys will have more higher standards to live to.

Good luck!

Sure hope Matrix wouldn't pull something like this... they're one of the (very few) companies that I still have faith in. I don't mean 'release a game with bugs' - I mean flat out 'release a pile of beta that is literally missing entire features, buttons, and has massive stability and documentation issues...'

Keep in mind, Elemental: War of Magic was in a similar state on release and took a year for a much more stable developer (Stardock) to bring up to standard.

And if you're wondering "Could SOtS2 really be THAT bad?". One of the developers likens it to an emergency C-Section in order to save child and mother.

That being said I decided to come back here and see how things were going after my temporary payed beta experience only to see all this Legends stuff.  So things aren't all bad in the 4X world :)

Actually Elemental was quite playable on release, it was lacking and suffering from a lot of stuff, but playable in the sense I don't get a BSOD by turn three, but you had to be patient.

On my side of things I knew of legends beforehand and was wondering what I was going to play, or keep playing. now, well, the doubt seems to be gone

Impressions after playing

Played the game for a while last night. Never came to blows with the alien infestations of the galaxy but did get a feel for the strategic game as a whole. It has incredible potential and the unique interface graphics and voice/sound for each race really does provide a completely new level of immersion.

Still, the overall atmosphere (color schemes, graphics, etc.) is a bit to “cartoon like” for my taste. There are some great features that would augment the DW gaming experience but I think that would start getting into copyright infringement. [;)]

Still very disappointed with the release version but I’m keeping the game because I expect it to get much better with several patches… and I love this genre so will support anyone attempting to keep it alive. Over all, DW is still the winner as far as I am concerned and I am really looking forward to the next DW expansion…. Again, seriously Erik… take all the time you need! [:)]
