If I well understood you have totally annihilated the Southwestern Front. Lvov pocket + more pockets in Ukraine. Really well done [:)]
This even convinces me even more: playing with the mobile units in the south is playing with fire... Not runnning away here is a suicide.

Turn 5
-4 PzG attacks through Velikiye Luki, establishing a nice bridgehead.
- The southern wing of 2PzG captures a bridghead over the Dnepr against no opposition 30 miles west of Chernigov.
A suprising omission by Qball @ Chernigov, but v well exploited

Let's see if he can slow you down in the harsh terrain around V Luki. If not, he will have issues..........,.

He must not have noticed every bomber, transport and carrier pigeon in the luftwaffe and rumanian airforce delivering fuel to the guys on the point. Started with 46mps was just enough to get across the river. I could have gone one more hex, but I was afraid of what might come crashing down on me.

Turn 6
I screwed up and sent the turn before I took screenshots so no pretty pictures of my breakthrough 8(
- In the north 18th army is still trudging north and east finally running into some friends at pskov.
- 16th army is pushing east in support of 4th PZG
- 4th Pzg continues its drive east from Vilikye Luki bridgehead, bending a little south to link up with 3rd PZG north east of Smolensk
- In the Landbridge INF from 3rd Pzg, 9th army and Detached 2Pzg Crack the first line of russains, Panzers from 2Pzg then widen the hole. The motorized elements of 3rd Pzg then drive through the hole in a massive
running battle with russain tank divisions to finally link up with Panzer from 4th Pzg filtering down from the north. The reulting pocket (if it holds) has 15 or so divisions trapped around Vitebsk.
- In the center the bulk of the 2nd Pzg with massive aerial supply support widens its Chernigov bridgehead against heavy russian resistance. INF from 6th army have finally caught up and will start crossing on turn 7.
- In the south 17th army masses along the Dnepr for an assault next turn. Panzers of 1st Pzg are resting with one corp gassing up this turn.
- depending on what qball does 1st PZG is in position to either break open a crack in the dnepr line (assuming 17th army can get across) or chase the russians down if the start running for the volga.
- from what I can see the russians are in a very precarious position now around smolensk, at the end of my turn there were no russians between my point and Moscow other than airbases and the moscow defenses.
Lots of woods so I could very well be not finding guys with air recon.

Mostly done with Turn 7
Vitebsk pocket cleared for the most part. Panzers were pinched very well by Qball so the spent this turn trying to find some fuel.
One PZC of 2nd PZG gasses west of smolensk for mischief making in the center next turn.
In the south I crack the dnepr line, using most of 17army to get a bridgehead and then expanding north
Rumanian hordes ooze forward on the coast

Turn 8
Overall, a disappointment this turn
Yellow marks where I wanted to go.
Blue and Red where I ended up settling for. More commentary after a nap.

I'm doubting the wisdom of taking a pass on Leningrad here, tbh. This never seems to work out.

You may very well be right here flavius.
Qball's tenacious defense has me thinking I need to reconsider my course. Aerial recon of moscow and its surroundings reveals _many_ brown units digging in to the north and south of the capitol in all of the proper places so taking moscow may be out of the list of achievables for this game. On the other hand ~1.5 mil casualties with ~1.2 mil captured is a start towards crunching the red army.
will have to see what kind of opportunities we get next turn. If a change is necessary 4th panzer can shift to the north and be attacking towards novgorod on Turn10. 3rd panzer has a lot of options for next turn, they will be rested and fueled and they have infantry out in front. 1st and 2nd panzers are probably doomed to some more pac man for the next couple of turns.
mud in the north soviet zone right now would be par for the course ......................

Turn 9
Qball continues to play havoc with my supply lines. In the south he has particulary jacked me up.
In the center things are going a lot better for my guys, Qball's line in the middle appears to have cracked and chaos will ensue.
This is the breakthrough that I have been hoping for at some point along the line. Allthough the Vyazma pocket is going to leak like a sieve, (initial reports from the front indicate that the russians have indeed counterattacked and isolated some Panzers near Vyazma) Qball is going to have to deal with a gaping hole. Lots of russians fighting and moving instead of digging and resting.
In the north 18th army continues to push forward against little to no opposition, 16th army continues to push towards vishny volocheck covering the northern flank of my drive on moscow.

Progress indeed
Being English, I don't play pool but I thought you were penalised for pocketing the q ball

Turn 10
- Pushing forward in the north bit by bit.
- Grinding towards moscow against heavy resistance, panzers got isolated so are completely out of gas.
- Vyazma pocket finally sealed, but panzers are tired and worn down.
In the south 48 panzer corp is redeploying to the dnepr bend, maybe we catch some russians trying to hold the dnepr too long.

Turn 11
-- In the north Minor attacks towards leningrad.
-- starting to work on establishing bridgeheads for a future offensive to the north.
-- fuel problems continue on the march to moscow ....Infantry coming up in force and the Luftwaffe is postiioned for the decisive stroke.
-- the remants of the Vyazma pocket are cleared up, Manstein's 56pz corp "appropriates" a couple extra divisions and gasses up for a push next turn.
-- 2nd panzer army reorganizes and gasses up the 24th panzer corp
-- Plan for turn 12 is pictured-- the idea is to blow open another hole in the russian line and threaten Ryazan-Lipetsk area and force the russians to deploy lots of his new toys there.
-- 6th army continues to push towards kursk and stretching the line of the russians.
-- 48 panzer corp might have some opportunities to the north at bagging more reds unless they withdraw as expected.

Turn 12
Grinding continues, large pocket formed around Orel and there is nothing (for the moment) between Guderian and the Urals.
Our Plan at this point is to swing north east to Ryazan and begin establishing a bridgehead on turn 13. If all goes well we will have a base on the eastern side of the Oka and Moskva rivers to then drive north. cutting all the rail lines to moscow and possibly generating a pocket around moscow if operations to the northwest of moscow proceed as planned.
In the south we fail to bag anyone around poltava, but might be able to catch some of them next turn.

Looks like lots of dead horses in the pocket for you to feed on. What are R casualties looking like? End of your next turn might be a good time to show them as that looks as if it will be a very productive one.

Turn 13
Mud in the north soviet zone. Screen before moves. Had to medicate when I opened the turn and got rained on 8)
Losses and stuff to follow.

Losses up through T13
I feel like I forgot something but i can't tell if I did or not.
Cleared up the Orel pocket, and bagged a few holdouts in poltava.
This turn was critical for my chances at getting moscow, I am in for a rough fight now to get across the Oka and Moskva in the Ryazan area.
The only good news this turn is that the Russians are apparently contemplating a push on the Rumanians.

Turn 14
Mud turn hurt bigtime, Russians had time to reorganize around moscow and rail around to stop any dash by my weary panzertruppen.
Guderian is stopped at the Oka in spite of Mansteins best efforts to clear a path for him.
Hoths boys slog forward against heavy resistance to the northeast of moscow itself.
Minor clean up in the south, otherwise russians are running faster than we can chase at the moment.
Severe fuel problems in the center preventing anything decisive from happening.
Horde still thuimbing its nose at the russians across the dnepr
