Well, that's a strange solution, but it works so I won't knock it [:)]

Glad it's finally all working

I've just had the same problem.  Read all this stuff but understood 50%.  Basically it seems to boil down to permissions so changed it to run as an administrator and it worked.

Adding some information here, for others benefit. I had the same problem as the OP; Win7 x64, with the Problem Signature 09: System.IO.FileNotFoundException

This was a clean OS install and a fresh install and latest patch of the base DW game. No addons.

Read the advice about security permissions and directory ownership, and set the DW folder and files to allow Everyone/Full. No joy.

Read EliotG's post about this
Can you please check whether you have the following files in the root game folder (C:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds):
- AxInterop.WMPLib.dll
- Interop.WMPLib.dll
- Ionic.Zip.dll

Also check in the folder C:\Windows\assembly for the following items:
- Microsoft.DirectX
- Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound
- Microsoft.VisualBasic
- PresentationCore
- WindowsBase

And found that I was missing the two DirectX files. Now, I have a fully patched and working DX11, and I decided not to install 9c as I assumed I was fully backwards compatable and I didn't want to overwrite any important files or break my compatability with other DX11 games.

Did some reading, found out this was not a problem. Grabbed the latest DX installer from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... aspx?id=35 and let it rip.

All problems solved. Will have to pick up the up the expansions after I remind myself how to play the base game.

Seems to be a common problem based on what I've seen on the forums here, maybe some notes for the FAQ?

Cheers
