Well, the fact that they post a thread saying they are looking for 10 new beta testers leads me to think that they see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree with lotromon,

What began life as an interesting game with a number of interesting ideas has morphed into a monstrosity that has taken almost 10 years to get onto a computer! Almost half a million WHEN? hits!!

There'll be an audience of about 50 grognard playing, similar number who buy but get swamped by the detail and a couple of hundred wishing they tried to emulate WIF version 1 rather than its later hyped up offspring.

Interested lurker, not going to buy it.

Well, thats up to you.

However the amount of traffic on this and the "when?" thread tends to weigh against your opinion of the overall interest- and it's certainly not just grognards from what I read.

It's not the game that has morphed, WIF itself is the "monstrosity" (and I say that with immense affection as a player!:-)) whose intricacies, ambiguities and sheer complexity still deal out unforseen logical issues even this far into testing.

I've tended to avoid these threads and kept my head down with testing. But I would like to just say guys, keep the faith. We are not far off now and this game is so much more than CWIF

Wow when I read a post like this it hurts a little. JeffK you are a Matrix Legion of Merit poster and I have to respect that. I know it does not mean you are a fan or player of WIF board game or the ADG Cwif game. But I asume you play many other Matix's games. I have never played the board game but I have the CWIF game and it's pretty decent if you don't mind playing against yourself [:)] I have always looked for a good semi-complex war game, WITP is a little too complex. this game seems to be between that and maybe Third reich and the SC series on Battlefront. About a year ago I was in your camp and was vehement about my feelings in posting much to my dismay. I was frustrated as everyone else is here but when Red Prince started to do the AAR's my spirits picked up a little. I complained and was a little nasty at times but since then I came to realize how terribly complicated this game is with all its rules I have trully changed. I dont know if you know this but it took ADG people almost 5 or 6 years to complete CWIF. Steve's version makes that game look like a loaf of unsliced bread [;)] The old saying it's better than a loaf of sliced bread is really true [&o] This I do know that once this game comes to be it will be backed to the hilt by Steve and Matix. There are some games put out by Matrix that are not backed up and are left to die on the vine [they shall remain ? for the moment unless someone asks me] [:-]] And I heard but don't hold me to this if you buy the game you get a weekend at Steve's house on OAHU when his renovations are done[:D] hopefully in the next 5 years[&:] I had to edit this part, "hopefully in the next five years" I meant the renovations not the game [:)]

I never surrender :-)

Of course the long time since starting the project is the major problem mentioned in numerous threads here. There were a few design decisions made at the atart of the project which are not reversible, that may have contributed to that time spending process (making RAC as near to RAW as possible, including CWIF-Code, working with only one man instead of a team). Of course because of the delay there were additional problems from chaning OS, Theme Engines etc. But to discuss these decicison now is not very useful.
In the last months there were additional manpower integrated in the process and probably this speeds up the programming process.

Of course I'am sad about the delaying because too, since many years I look to play WIF on the computer. In the RL many able players drop out because of familiy business or other reasons, so Matrix WIF will revive my WIF-plying ability significantly. And so I will buy the product if it's relaesed this year (not probable in my eyes), next year or thereafter. Steve "sworen off" in relaesing ETAs. I think this decision is right . My only fear is, that some major problem (like the end of the world in 2012 or so) will result in and end to MWIF before it is released. But waiting for MWIF is not the most delayed project. Since 1993 I wait for the fifth book in the CHTORR-Trilogy, and I will wait until David Gerrold will go in the next Dimension (I wish of course that he have many happy years until than, regardeless from the point if he writes this book or not). So waiting for MWIF for me is only half the time of waiting for the mentioned book.

By the way: not to surrender can lead to very much exitement even if not winning. In the EURO WIF 2011 CON I lost my first game against very able players by complete conquest of the axis in SO43. And in my opinion if we dind't lost TOKYO vs. a not so strong invasion, we could hold out in the Balkan Redout until late 44 or early 45. It was one of my funniest games and in the end we won the "Fight to the end"-Award and about 50.- €.

So I will not surrender here too!

Nice to see you here on the posts Erik keep it up we posters need to see you here more.[:)]

Never surrender? Yes. Never give up? No. Sometimes it is better to "run away" to fight another day...

Running away doesn't mean you have surrendered or given up.[;)] The Russians have provided proof of that in several major conflicts.

Invade Hoorn? I'm sorry, but that city can't be invaded. Invasions not allowed on the IJsselmeer coast, I'm afraid... [:D]
You have to walk accross the forts of the Afsluitdijk. Let's see if you will do better than the German Cavalry division did there. If you go through Amsterdam: well, than I'm conquered anyway... [:D], so no need for an invasion after that.

Thanks for telling everyone I have no idea what I am talking about [:@] of course I knew you could not invade Hoorn [&:] I was just testing the rest of the players here to see if they knew [:D] Smarty pants, oh well back to my studies of the IJsselmeer coastline [8|]

I have almost no knowledge of WIF, but the information on this forum certainly makes it look like a game I would buy. Waiting is always the hard part, but the judging by the discussion it generates, it will probably be worth it. [:)]
