The russians replaced the engines with long-range diesels, which were very very unreliable atleast in the first raids.
Edit: The planes they used were Pe-8's and some other types I can't remember right now

What was the name of the German cruiser that was sunk by torpedo/'s fired from the shore.
Bonus points; What country did it.

That's easy, Blücher or previously known as Deutschland. Sunk 1940 when Germany was invading Norway, torpedos hit the ship after it had taken some serious beating from coastal guns.

ive been on top of blücher, on a clear day you can see the ship sitting there on the bottom.
or then its some other ship.
but when i was in norway ages ago they rented boats to go see some german boat wreck
OK...we're on a roll now...

Ok...here's one:
What 1944 Western Front battle was the last time a medieval fortress played a decisive role against a mechanized army?

There is a famous scene from the life of Patton (and the movie) in which he takes a detour in his Jeep in North Africa to a battlefield, saying something along the lines of "I have been here before." What was the battlefield, and what armies fought there in what war?
I haven't seen Patton in a long while, but was it the battlefield of Zama??
Wasn't that scipio africanus vs hannibal in the... 2nd... 3rd punic war?
Oh, and while we're asking questions...
What American company(s) were involved in wwii before the united states actually entered the war? (and I'm not talking lend-lease)

That is certainly correct - Patton believed he had been Hannibal at Zama in the 2nd Punic War, 202 BC. It was Hannibal's final significant defeat.
Hmmmm...good question...

about which US company(ies) were involved in WW2 first....can't wait to hear the answer.
Until then....here's another one from me:
On 9 Sept 1939, aircraft from what British ship forced down and
captured the first German plane downed in World War II?

I just couldn't remember this one, so I had to look it up. Is that cheating?
WWII: What was the real story behind
the Mickey Mouse insignia painted on the fuselage of your fighter plane?
Galland: We started this in Spain, and when I painted it on my Me-109E in JG.26 it was holding a hatchet and smoking a cigar, which I loved. But after the war I had to give cigars up.

To me it seems more strange that Opel, while a GM subsidiary, continued to supply trucks etc. to the Wehrmacht throughout the war.
Oh well, I guess the buck beats anything :p

I don´t know about the rest, but the SS-uniforms were designed by no other than Hugo Boss.
There is nothing quite as stylish as an aryan male in a black SS-uniform.

Hmm... don't know about that one. But probably, most of the other uniforms, and definately a large proportion of Nazi propaganda was designed by old Adolf himself.... and this brings me onto my new question...
What was Adolph Hitler's other dream occupation (the one he SHOULD have taken up)?
