My uncle would disagree about that. I think it depends on in what service you are. He was on a Dutch merchantmen during the war. He stated that the waiting for the torpedo from a U-boat was the most difficult thing. You know they are there, but when will they attack and what ship will they take for a target...ORIGINAL: warspite1

To be fair I think danlongman probably had a valid point. On balance, the worst part of war is not really the waiting; not when compared to treading on a land mine, being tossed 6 ft in the air (sans wedding tackle and a limb or two) and then falling in a heap in no man's land, where you become the target for the enemy's shooting practice. To be perfectly honest, and given the option, I'd be perfectly happy to be bored for a few hours waiting for something to happen...like for the war to end, thanks all the same.....

I agree Warspite, although Centaurs post certainly puts a different but equally valid perspective on it
I think my signature line sums it all up perfectly[:'(]

None really.
The thread was created for a bit of fun,.... while the sand grains of time slip through our fingers, while we wait like silent sentinels for the game that will never come, as we grow older and more decrepit, awaiting one last meeting with our one true love,.... to relive our youth one last time.......WiF....we love you!!
Thats why......[8|]
