Just to avoid any confusion:
JeffK was asking about having a non-leader experienced pilot in the squadron and its effects on pilot training of rookies. I expressed that I haven't seen (or heard of) any documented benefit of this approach.
Other posters have talked about the benefit of having unit commanders / leaders with good stats. I think there has been sufficient evidence to show that this is beneficial.
Hope this clarifies this sometimes confusing topic. One must be very precise in their terms.
