Okay - I'm not really feeling that vibe, but each to their own. [walks off to the east wing, gently calling, as if to a delicate flower] Nicole, where are you?

Well, I'm not sure that Nicole is interested in grown men that talk to flowers, but I could be wrong.
ETA: Sorry, OP. Just a WEE departure from your topic. [:D]

And of course there has to be a love story in it... history by Hollywood, so sad!
What I need to know is is there an IJN bomber trying to drop bombs on Packards instead of ships or oil tank farms? [:D]

Saw the movie today; it is not in wide release, and given the subject matter and reviews I don't expect it ever will be. It was far from great and had many flaws (most annoying being the explanatory narration which filled about half of the first 20 minutes - doncha think someone who bought a ticket for this movie would already know that there were atomic bombs dropped on Japan?), but I think it's still worth seeing for someone that has an interest in the period and $12 burning a hole in their pocket. Mostly, it's a lot of talking about how bizarre and alien Japanese culture is and a story of a long-ago forbidden love with a little bit of politics and intrigue thrown in.
The biggest question the movie left me with was not Hirohito's level of war crime guilt, but how Dr. Shephard got off the island again... the casting decisions for the two main parts were a little odd, to say the least.

The review in the local fishwrap said it's essentially a romance story set in Japan at the time. The reviewer wanted a lot more Tommy Lee Jones and a lot less of the two leads.
