Yes, Soviet Category IV (Wartime Mobilisation Only) units and barrel scrapings from various NATO members ... assuming the war wasn't over in a few weeks like the Russians assumed ... and that it didn't go nuclear, as was probably inevitable in the real world outside of US Think Tanks [:D]

I know the topic of this forum is scenerios from the timeperiod of the 1980's but wondered about other possibilities. What about the mid to late 1970's before the U.S. military buildup of the 80's. If I remember correctly, the American army was somewhat considered disorganized and low moral after the Vietnam war. Another idea would be any time from 2003 to present with American military stretched with Iraq and Afganistan and military force reduction over the last few years. I assume that there will be some players out there that may consider these with the scenerio builder that will be part of the game but thought I would add my two cents worth.

We plan on expanding into other decades as time goes. Right now the focus is on the 80s.

Me I’d go with Spring of ‘84. Why? We had just had the Beirut Bombing (I was there), Invasion of Grenada, KAL 007 in the previous fall, the Soviets we sure we were going to attack in November ’83 (Able Archer) and initiated Operation RYAN to counter/monitor it. Assuming the anxiety of a Western attack continued through the winter and seeing more and newer American/Western arms beginning to come into Europe the Soviets see their conventional edge slipping. Frightened by how close they came to nuclear war and with one last window of opportunity to launch a successful conventional attack the plans to initiate war in Europe with a massive nuclear strike are shelved.
