Very excited to start off as a small pirate faction in the pre-hyperspace era, sounds very entertaining to me!

I was wondering if they redid the ship hull classes. For example, a frigate would have hull space of XX and a destroyer alittle more, so on. Like MoO2 to research much larger hulls.

I couldnt figure out why to pack everything on a frigate of size 230, it get more space and still remain as a frigate. For instance, if you put 4-5 inches guns on a ship it would be a destroyer and 6 incher would be light cruiser and on. But that is what the navy is like in WWII.

Also noticed that when the game start from the beginning, you are not suppose to build resupply ship. There were a yellow warning that it cannot be build, but you can anyway. So i dont know if that is a glitch or what.

No specific space limit to specific class! Give us the liberty to express our strategy.

I second that!

WW1/WW2 roles aren't the same as a made up space game role.
There are no reason to try to enforce your specific roleplaying onto others roleplaying playstyle.

Anyhow, in real life, as large as feasibly possible, within limits of maneuverability was the optimum design for most ship types, to the extent that the ships designed with the original harrassing roles of cruisers ended up being as large as battlecruiser, trading armour for speed.

You already have the freedom to make your ships to fixed sizes, like the AI.
If there were limits to ship sizes for a role in distant worlds, then that role wouldn't be built at all, it'll just be irritating.

Anyhow, I read somewhere that the starting factions will start off evenly distributed, which makes a nice change!

I have to say everything.
Features
[*]Play as an Empire or a Pirate in the Age of Shadows
[*]Start as a pre-Hyperspace Empire
[*]Start as a Raider, Pirate, Mercenary or Smuggler and play with an entirely space-based faction that can if successful become a planetary empire as well
[*]New Pirate Leader and Pirate Captain characters
[*]Assault pods and ship to ship or base boarding actions, including ship and base capture
[*]Gravitic Weapons and Tractor Beams
[*]New expanded Ground Combat with new troop types and an animated ground battle resolution screen
[*]Infantry, Armor/Mech, Special Forces, Planetary Defense Units
[*]Resolution of the multiple stages of a planetary assault
[*]New Ground Combat technology tree
[*]Expanded and improved Area Weapons
[*]New planetary facilities
[*]Improved AI and new comprehensive difficulty settings
[*]New and Improved higher performance Graphics Engine

If I have to pick a single feature, it's the increased performance. It's a technical feature, but my late games are really struggling in performance despite having a fairly fast computer. To be honest, I hope it's backported to previous versions as you shouldn't have to buy a third expansion to get that feature.

I've not experienced many crashes at all with Legends. I only get severe problems like that when running windowed. I'm now wondering if Windowed mode will work better with Shadows...?

That would be a welcome change. Far too often I've found that my starting system is right next to another race.

I'm really looking forward to the increased demand for resources, hopefully making the game a bit more tactical. I hope that improvements to the graphics engine really smooth things over too.. one of my biggest frustrations with the interface is how it skips and stutters every time I zoom in or out.

I like as well that the pre-warp era limits your ship range so heavily. I always felt it was a bit too easy to build ships that could gallivant across the galaxy right from the beginning of the game. Hand in hand with this goes the increased difficulty and the ramping up of the difficulty when the player does well. I think I'll like this much better than the usual tactic of having everyone gang up on the player when he does well.

And once all that is settled, I'll go straight back to modding every inch of the game I can get my hands on :)

I just want to play as a pirate/mercenary faction really..

also, hopeful for some performance increase especially when zooming & in the dreaded late gaming. doubtful though. :)

Can not say much for the pirate side of things as I have been playing a pre warp empire but the late game is much better, on a 1400-10x10 I do not have the choppy gameplay I used to have and the zooming is better as well, although I do have the odd 30 seconds of sitting on the page up and page down keys when sanity escapes me (often) I still much prefer to save my mouse batteries and use the insert and delete keys the most, insert lets you plan the resources for a system and delete lets you see the area around that system to gauge for other resources and possible threats, obviously when the empire gains proper tech the end key is used to get a better picture. Just easier to control the zoom in segments is all.

Cheers Darkspire, sounds like it has improved somewhat.

well only time will tell for me if its better on my asus G75VW, its an i7 with 16gb or ram and running SSD drives and its supprising that it slows down to a crawl playing even a medium game (700 planets i think) with 11 other races.

As for using hotkeys I dont use them, totally a zoom junkie... just looks and feels more epic. :P

Just to add to what Darkspire has already stated, the consensus I'm getting from other Testers is that performance is definitely improved over previous iterations of DW [:)]

BEST LUCK FOR THE RELEASE ..

The Economy has been tightened up a bit, and Planets do consume resources to grow.
How much the Planets consume I don't know, but I can verify that resources are consumed even if nothing is being built.
