Is it easier to organize units now? The first AACW game was more work than play.

That's my question, and the biggest thing standing in the way of me pulling the trigger.

Please don't take me to be disrespectful or rude, but what was so hard about organizing units? It was just drag an drop. I will admit that it took some time when I was beginning to determine when the conditions would be met in order to form divisions and corps, but once that was figured out it was really easy. Again, I'm not intending to be a jerk. I'm just curious.

Obviously it was for more than a few, because this complaint pops up again and again. If it was real easy it would have taken little or no time to figure out. It was just way too cumbersome to do and undo. If this was addressed I'd take another whack at it.

The problem is that dropping was imprecise - it had to be on just the right pixel. Miss it and you had to do it again - not worth it, imo.

Ah ok. Yes, I do remember it could be a little finicky in that respect. I learned to lock stacks pretty quickly! haha.

Well so far i like the game a lot. I agree the GUI design of the first game was a little bit better, but i love the map!

Not played AGEOD games much but was there a club or place for AACW1 where people join either armies and find opponents ? like ACWG Club maybe for HPS games ... or only AGEOD forums used for that ?

The ACWGC sanctions AACW games and you can seek opponents there.

I love Revolution Under Siege, and yet, AACW 1 and Rise of Prussia did nothing for me. Can't explain why. Probably all those tanks in the RUS Drang21 scenario. I assume the "models" unit data files are still easily moddable? Just a matter of seeing how long I can resist, I guess [;)]

There is a shortcut for this. (Manual page 99)
  • [Ctrl] +C: When several Units are selected, combine them.

I'm pretty sure that's for combining units already in the same stack - not for moving units from one stack to another, or ocmbining stacks.

Does the AI still do strange things?  Such has Lee up near the great lakes with just small unit during the middle of the war.

There is an issue in the 1.00 version where the AI can be overly aggressive. It has been fixed and will be part of the first patch.

I've been playing a grand campaign as the Union, and so far the South has been sending everything it has in Virginia towards Pittsburgh and the rest of central PA. Definitely a lingering problem from the first game. When that happens it's too easy to slip another Union army towards Richmond. The Confederate AI simply doesn't know how to cover its supply base in the east and react to the player, it simply throws everything it has northward in an attempt to capture cities.

See my post just above yours regarding the overly aggressive AI.
