Hey, it happens. Makes for a nice "What if?" game.
What's worst than that, however, is my current game: Grant's won a dozen battles into 1863 and *still* hasn't been promoted to 3-star. ?! Others are being promoted left and right, but not Grant... feels like a bug, or just very unlucky.

Works great, but another issue: is there any way to easily find which generals are eligible for promotion?
I know every turn there's a report, but if I miss it, I won't see it again unless I (fortunately) click on the right stack. Would be nice to have a "one stop shop" that always shows which generals I can promote. (Also would be nice to have an option for filtering/displaying wounded generals, generals who were killed, etc.)
Similarly leader-related: how often do generals promote and/or get killed in battle? Seems pretty infrequent in my games. Although, in my RC4 game, I just lost Sherman in battle at the end of 1861... ouch, that hurt!
Glad you like the new feature in RC4!
As for generals & promotion. You get a message notification for each such promotable general, plus their name pulsates in the stack panel. You don't get more so far. Many messages are important in fact, and if we start to add icons and audio notification for all messages, then this might get annoying.
Generals can be wounded or killed more or less easily, depending of a value specific to each of them (leaders killed historically have a high value, like Lyon for example). Length and intensity of battle, plus the luck factor plays a part too.
