You haven't been reading...

CrushU, WS will have a couple nasty surprises for you :)
NMs are also good to lite woods BTW. Missiles in general are good to chop woods, decreasing or negating protection. Fires have that 0.5 HD factor that might hide the target. Just stating another option, not saying it's better or worst.

LRMs work best for chopping woods. There just aren't enough missiles per rack for GMs to do as much against woods.

Iceman? Do NMs both chop woods and light them on fire?

GMs are not that bad either. All missiles hit, don't forget that. It's total damage that's counted, not number of missiles.
About NMs, they only lite woods. I think. :)
In WS, light woods are also "reduceable" BTW.

Hmmm, PC might be right here, I can't recall how it works in v1.4 anymore, and I don't have the v1.4 guide with me. I know it was changed in WS, and I was replying based on WS - terrain toppings have hit points, they are reduced when HPs reach zero.

In v1.4 the number of missiles is what counts. Hit points for terrain was introduced with WS.

I remeber that you need at least 5 missiles/volley to have a chance to reduce cover.

And LRMs have a much higher number of missiles, making it easier to defoliate the landscape.
But I like the idea of terrain feature hit points. That will make a great addition.

cannons vs energy vs missle systems
ok heres how i look at it and this might just be me but here goes:

cannons: usually have good range and good/fair reload time good to use while moving and work well when combined with cc weaponry and good for retreating (causing the smoke screen thing) they do have ammo which can explode yes but if your somewhat careful you can avoid getting into the red zone as most of the cannons are low-heat weapons (with the exception of several perhaps mainly the ac20)

energy: the special effects masters being able to cause a wide range of special effects on both terrain and other titans but the reload times (at least seem to me) are fair/long and have a good range as well but do have a fairly good amount of heating to them which can kill you in hell or save you in polar but it all depends on the situation

missle: missles are simply the long range artiallry of the game thats what ive been told and see (although id rather have a long range ac20 but oh well wishful thinking :D ) the 4 types are all good at one point or another gms seems to be able to hit more often while lrms have probably the longest range in the game srms are good for pelting your opponent with that "extra little bit" that'll piss him off napalm missle racks are excellent for lightning forests up and heating titans to the point of no return at a distance

now i probably messed a few things up but you have to give me some credit as i am still probably considered a newbie in here ;) :D

and would someone please tell me wether or not corrin has gone tottaly and completely insane?

What's that supposed to mean?
I'm just in a terribly good mood.

And besides, sanity is the plaything of the unimaginative.

Larkin, do NMs reduce woods?
I can't remember them ever doing so, but it seems that as missiles they should, even tho they are more heat oriented, as opposed to damage. That was one of the great advantages of missiles in 1.4, besides the obvious sandpaper effect, and actual power.

I like Energy weapons because of the no ammo aspect. Still there is the problem of heat. So I use them as a support weapon. my energy equiped titans are more like turrets that burn woods in there pastime. the big engine is not a problem when you have a bait titan. HEAT is a bigger concern.

In WS they can reduce wood. But since wood has its own hp ( dense forrest 120 ) it takes a bit. In v1.4 they can't AFAIK.

Just so I can look like a total egghead...which I suppose I could be.

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

And you wonder why they shortened -that- one.

Lobsteve.
