I agree with crsutton. Yamato hada very basic fire control system developed just for her class. In fact, if I recall correctly, she failed gunnery trials. And she did not get a lot of time to excersise. Even a dry drill gives some practice, but Yamoto was very expensive to put to sea. The Iowas, on the other hand, were at sea constantly, and therefore had more drill time. She also had state of the art ( for that time) fire control. State of the art magazine delivery. As mentioned above, this gave allied warships a huge advantage. You can 'game' it all you want, but this would be a no-contest contest. In fact, i believe either of the North Carlonia class BB's would have done very well against either of the Japanese "super battleships".

The truth is that Japan choose to invest her limited resources in "super" Battleships, building two and laying down a 3rd. During the same period, the US built 11 BB's and laid down two more. So the real question to me is could 2 (possibly 3) YAMATO's beat 2 WASHINGTON's, 5 SOUTH DAKOTA's, and 4 IOWA's (possibly six). I don't think so....

So what would happen if Yamato had Rammed IOWA's. It seems it gives better chance of success.

In a race, sure. In an actual battle, I don't see why it couldn't happen.

For me a more interesting fantasy match up would be:
what would have happened if somehow the Japanese reverse engineered an advanced radar/ fire control. So both Iowa and Yamato had equivalent radar/ fire control sets.

In a race, sure. In an actual battle, I don't see why it couldn't happen.

Simple. If the IOWA took any significant damage to anything but her machinery, she would simply sail away out of range. If her machinery was damaged and her speed reduced below that of YAMATO, then there is no need for Yamato to risk the damage involved in ramming.

I sank the Yamato with a dozen Swordfish in one game [8D]

I did that in the old WitP. A British carrier ended up one hex away from the Yamato. The first strike sank her. The second wave of string bags found empty ocean.
