strange reference to not stopping for tea MR tbh, usa army stops for everything else, not going to say what either but can remember many old wars fought when the stopped for more than just tea, they have one of if not the biggest logistical support efforts than any other army, it's well known that they won't move unless they have every creature comfort, the same going is still true even today, over paid, over sxxxx and still over in some countries, the world police force that never got voted for or asked to be it either, i'm not anti war, anti usa or anti anything, but we dont stop for tea anymore than anyone else, have a lot smaller army, less of everything and are always fighting with less than everyone else, out of date, poorly equipped and always undermanned and outgunned but hardly ever outclassed.

I simply related my experiences in the 70's. We were talking about a US soldiers response to being with the British Army. I'm saying that is one of the big things that hit us. It's tea time. Stop the war and brew up.

Would that happen in a shooting war? I have no doubt that it wouldn't.

as mentioned before in the forum somewhere, i like ww2 mostly, and so many battles have in films anyway shown the British army in a poor light regarding tea taking when speed would have been better (a bridge too far etc) for one and there are others, when you have a larger force you can take more risks, you can afford the losses as a percentage etc, Patton was good at this, Russia and China also have good doctrine for acceptable losses, UK has always been a smaller force so have always been, (well most of the time) more cautious [:'(]

Wow...news to me. Day 3 of the march to Baghdad there were a lot of US troops and marines who were going without food and "creature comforts". As for the rest, no other nation is capable of projecting power like the US because of its concentration on logistics. Take the politics out of it, the 2003 Iraq invasion was an unbelievable accomplishment in its speed. Considering how fast the army and marines reached Baghdad airport and city proper, I don't see how you can suggest that the US stops for everything and won't move without it.

On one occasion, US helicopters we used to ferry British troops on an attack in the southern port of Basra because the Brits lacked the helicopters and support to conduct the operation. Certainly not their fault (the soldiers didn't cut the budget) but proof nonetheless that logistics are far more important. The US did for large scale logistical operations what the Germans did for armored warfare or the Brits did for global naval operations

No one here has taken anything away from the Superb British army and marines...but you cannot say that they are "better" (or worse) than their American counterparts. Both are highly trained, disciplined and well equipped.

It seems like you took it as a slight...the mention of Brits stopping for tea. I don't think it was meant as such and certainly wasn't a suggestion that the US Army was "better"

Edit: just saw your comment that your post was meant as a joke so...noted. Mine certainly isn't meant as anything other than a response. BTW, with recent US cuts to the military, I'm wondering about our ability to project power as well.

Bought the 3 books from Amazon uk. Germany had the "childs" version, bad language filtered.

I do remember reading somewhere about US logistics. In Vietnam they had 4!, if I remember correct, ice cream factories, so that their fighting forces could cool foff a bit in the heat.

Also WWII the navy had luxuries anboard their ships, foodwise. But then the RN did have thei rum allowance.

I have health issues too. I also spend too much time on the forums. Especially these.

The family issues are working themselves out. Family dog was killed and she had puppies. Working through all that. Puppies finally all have a new home. So now just get to deal with the loss.

Yep, and back on thread, I hope Andy's books sell. I love modern fictional warfare and wish there was more.
