Checking what the error might have affected, I found that True Update no longer functions.

Performed a reinstall, the error message did not re-appear, but True Update still does not funtion

Does the error message below affect True Update?

"When I updated I got a message, something about couldn't rename file #2 in line 5 - or something to that effect. Was just wondering if that was because I had renamed the movie folder to something else"

The error message True Update generated after both installs was the same:

Error executing file
C:\MatrixGames\UncommonValor\TrueUpdate.exe
The System cannot find the file specified

Has anyone else experiencing this problen with True Update. The game itself works fine, no problems

Thanks,
Art
I had problems first off , try closing everything down and run "true update" from within the UV folders. Still get that common error message everyone is reporting ,but nothing else up to now.

Hi Guys

We are now using the Windows Registry Settings to install and find the game directory. This will allow everyone to update there game just a little easier. If you are having a problem with True Update (which you shouldn't) look in your home directory of UV. If you used the default it would be c:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor.

You will find a file called settings.org it should be renamed to settings.ini This should allow the old setting.ini file be used IF you have not installed the v2.0 patch. If you have the game is checking the registry and that file is not being used.

If you click on the "More Information" link it will bring you to a page that will show you all the updates and changes in v2.0 as well.

All downloaded updates are placed in your Patches sub-folder off of your main game directory. The update files are not deleted once they are installed. So if you downloaded the update files ready you do not have to download them again. Just double click on the update you want to install.

More later.

I have some modified files – art files only I think. Will TrueUpdate work ok or will it die if some file doesn’t match the expected value? If it does update OK, will my art files be changed? If so, I need to know ahead of time so I can back them up.

Just back up your art files first. The use Update and if they over write the files then you can use the back ups you made.

unable to download 2.0

Ross,
I have also received the "FTP error, line 15, file#2 not found" message. This ends with a failed download attempt through true update. I have tried on 3 separate occasions and receive the same message approx 4mb into the process. Using windows explorer, I looked for the settings.org and settings.ini files you mentioned. The only setting file in the directory had no extension and was a small config file. Was this the one I should rename?
I am using xp in case the operating system has an effect.
Looking forward to an answer and the ability to play the new version. Someone else mentioned a reinstall-- does this mean that I should also reinstall the patches in sequence if I try that method?
Thanks
ZMAN

For the team - happy to report no problems downloading and updating 2.0 via True Updater.

Win98, 56k modem took 4 hours (quick and smooth to my surprise).

True Updater only reported the patch as I think, 37meg instead of the 42 David listed but it went about its work and applied the patch fine. Just fired up and no issues.

Adam.

I too have a dial up modem.

I estimated 3 hour download

At the 2 hour mark it died - twice.

Is there any reason for the patch to be so large???

Hi,

I too have 56k modem. My 1st & 2nd attempt resulted in failure at 2 & 4MB milestone - something about line fault. Managed to download Ver 2.0 in the 3rd attempt - in 2 hours 45 minutes. I supposed there is nothing much we can do except to hope for the best. Keep trying and good luck!:)

Thanks very much Matrix & 2By3 and all beta testers for your great work!:) :)

Hi Guys

For those guys losing connection its because of the phone lines. But let it not be said that Matrix does not love its fans. I had a little nap and will be making a quick mini install. It will have just the must have files.

They actually allow you to sleep? :D

Really above and beyond. . .

Where would we ever get such personal support like this?

OK Guys

For those with the modems you will now find the in our Download section a link for Uncommon Valor v2.0 Enjoy! The file is the same size as with the True Update program. When I went over the files I saw that we really needed everything.

Well I just finished downloading the patch using True update(with my antique 56k modem) and it worked this time. First time ever for me.

David, I'm sure the other unfortunate ones will appreciate you posting the link to the patch. For me it was not the size of the file but that if True Update terminated part way through the download I would have to start from scratch. Unlike when I use GetRight which allows me to resume interupted downloads.

BTW I jut noted that I can now assign pilots leader # in the editor! You wonderful guys forgot to put this fix on the list of changes. ;) And here I was thiking I would have to wait till who knows when. Well thats what I get for thinking. :D

Now to go check out the other patch goodies, after I get some sleep.

Hmmm...

I can't update using Trueupdate, it keels over with 'Error downloading file. (#99, Line 2)' after downloading 20 Mb each time. I'm using a 56k Modem, I don't have the option of anything faster here unfortunately due to our marvellous telecommunications system.

But I can't get the patch through the link above either, all the patches there, not just 2.0, give me 'The Page Cannot Be Displayed'. Anyone any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong before I go and drown myself?

:( :( :(

Hmm, I clicked the link and getright fired up, said that anonymous FTP access was not allowed (it handles the redirection quite well obviously!)...

Just clicking the link from IE gives me an error page with:
"Cannot find server or DNS error"

Pointing at:
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/UncommonV ... tchv20.zip

The server does exist, so I'm betting that it just couldn't login and IE turns that into the above error (it's FTP handling has always been terrible).

Seems like some configuration error to me :/

[I actually don't have this game yet, but after spending 3 hours reading IChristie's AAR and checking it out I think I'll be ordering it Monday ;)]

Could also be the number of people doing d/l is causing this error.

Hmm, I think there's indeed a problem : this morning, I effectively had some "too many users" messages, but this time, when I try to resume the download, the message is "no anonymous access allowed"

Regards.

Cool! I like the new sounds

....give me 'The Page Cannot Be Displayed'. Anyone any ideas ...

That means literally that the FTP is to busy to handle your request. Too many people downloading thr same time, you just have to try later again.

2.0 won't download

I have now been unsuccessful in 11 attempts to download the new patch. The same message from true update occurs whether or not I begin the process from the True update folder in the home directory or from the update screen from the opening game menu. The message occurs approx. 6 mb into the download. FTP error: line 19 file #2 not found
I then tried switching to the zipped file which was posted. I downloaded the zip file for the patch 4 times (approx 7mb zipped) and encountered a different problem. WinZip says the following:
Winzip cannot open because it doesn't appear to be a valid archive file.Download again.
This merely placers me into an inescapable loop- download-cant' open-download again--repeat. I felt like someone wwho was handed the old two sided business card that says "how do you keep an idiot busy (turn over) on each side.
If this keeps occuring, can I just buy a v2.0 cd? Help!
