cap_and_gown thank you for this AAR, it is not only a great read, but very educational. I do think you were very lucky subs weren't a factor because they could have ate your transport TFs for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and gone back for a midnight snack. I know because I did the same thing before but my opponent put about 4 subs in Port Moresby and slaughtered my transports.

My only question is was this against AI or human opponent?

I had a question or two about this, Cap. First, why did you make such large Transport TFs? You had 16-19 in each Transport TF, as I recall. Aren't smaller ones harder to spot, and quicker to unload?

Second, I notice you had Admirals in command of your Transport TFs. Why was this? Did you want to ensure that they didn't retire?

Finally, I'm curious about how you deployed your AOs. I noticed you had a few "AO in support"; were they in separate Replenishment TFs? If so, did you have a Replenishment TF in the same hex as some of your Bombardment/Surface/Air Combat TFs? Would it have been better if the AOs had lagged behind a bit, perhaps with the transports, to avoid this "automatic" refueling that apparently slowed your Bombardment TF.

Oh, and how did the game ultimately turn out? [/B]

I am not going to make up 95 transport TFs, one for each transport because of some supposed probability that smaller TF's are less likely to be spotted. This would simply give him 95 chances to spot me instead of 5. Also, it strikes me as just plain gamey.

Admirals were put in charge based on how agressive they were and their competence. The more agressive and competent the better. I don't want them withdrawing and I want whatever savy they posses in order to increase the survivability of the TF's.

The AO's were in their own TF and set to follow the bombardment group.

The game is still progressing.

Third post in this thread states that this is a PBEM, scn #17, 100% commitment for both sides, all historical options on.

Shameless bump. Actually, though, I should have more to report on this game shortly, though for the time being things have been relatively quiet since the capture of PM.

Is going onto the defensive after PM a Good idea? As IJN, I've reached the stage where i've capture PM, Gili, Lunga and Tulgai, but other than building up Irau am not sure of what to do next.
