yes I saw what David wrote, but I dont know how to access this. Do I just type this as the address after www etc? because I tried this and it didn't work. I also tried to do a search for this ip address and didn't come up with anything either.
I now have the update (solution with regards to file name), but would really like to know this for future refference
thanks

Download an FTP client from one of those gazillions shareware sites out there. For example Tucows at
www.tucows.com.
I recommend CuteFTP though, it´s not freeware but you can test it for some 30 days or so.
With the FTP client you can "easily" connect to FTP sites and browse them.

2- if one person is playing 2.10 and another 2.11 does it make any difference in pbem games?

Remember what USS Maine says

because his suggestion was right for me too. I copy and pasted the "TrueUpdate.cli" file to the main UV folder, then renamed the copy to "UPDATE-UV.cli". Then simply click on the Update-UV.exe file (blue diamond icon with opposing blue arrows) or create a shortcut to Update-UV.exe.
I also agree with USS Maine about the utility of "TrueUpdate"..it is simply a great idea. Compare this to the user mods for Close Combat for eg. <shudders>
Way to go Matrix/UV team....thanks for the great support with the prompt updates. A+ If y'all don't like USS Maine's idea...feel free to nuke my post.
BTW..anyone remember the discussion about the millions of lines of code for the anticipated "Star Wars" missile shield. Can you imagine trying to do a quick update to MissileShield.exe v 1.1 with several thousand thermonuclear warheads 15 minutes from impact?

Can anyone tell me how to use that info to access the FTP site? Looks like it is mostly a matter of including that info in the ftp address, but I do not know the syntax. If I simply enter ftp.matrixgames.com I get a a message stating that Windows can not access that folder.
Your trying to Ftp via Browser?
FTP is best done with a stand alone program in my view, i use WS-FTP and when you run it you can create via New a new site to connect to where all the login info above is put in and program uses to auto connect to the selected site.

Renaming save files

Hello,
probably your save files still have the .dat extension after the name you gave them, if you go to old MS-DOS you will see the complete name, you can rename them here (it's mentioned in another post, but I can't remember where). I had the same problem and that solved it for me.
Remember the trick for typing the ~ symbol is Alt+126.
Hope this helps.

Slickric;
Here is part of a post by MR Schwanebeck on renaming files AND changing the file extensions...I had the same problem:
***********************************************
To convert old files to the new format, used in version 2.0, you just need to rename them. **
1) The autosave in slot zero should be renamed uv000_autosave.uvs
2) The combat vcr replay in slot one should be renamed uv001_combatsave.uvs
3) The other files should be renamed, using the following convention:
uvxxx_scen.uvs where xxx is the slot number
This will cause the saved game to show up in the saved game list of the game. You should then load the game with some meaningful comment. When you look in the saved game folder, you will see the game you saved, with the slot number and the comment you assigned, such as:
UV004_Carrier Battle.UVS
this should aid in saved game management.
**
In "MyComputer" or the "Windows Explorer" just go to:
Tools -> Folder Options -> View
There uncheck "Hide extensions for known files types"
note: the path above is from WindowsXP. The path might by slighty different on other OSs. But you get the idea.
