Hi folks,
I've been messing about with WitW for a while now, and slowly coming to grips with the mechanics. I dipped my toe into the editor, then promptly fled in terror
Anyway, I noticed a couple of oddities in the RAF orbat - namely a couple of Stirling sqns in 2TAF, which caught my eye. When I looked into it, it seems they maybe shouldn't be there. So far I've really only looked at RAF Transport Command, but this is what I found for the 1944 Campaign (D-Day start):
1) 161 Sqn RAF should be deleted. This squadron flew Special Duties, flying SOE agents and supplies into and out of occupied Europe. It was never part of the Main Force bomber force.
2) 525 Sqn RAF should be renamed 48 Sqn, and moved to Down Ampney. 525 Sqn was a transport squadron, but it flew regular flights on strategic transport routes, out to Egypt and India and the like. As such it probably shouldn't appear in the orbat for WitW. 48 Sqn, on the other hand, was part of Tpt Command, and flew missions on D-Day and after. It's probably(?) easier to rename and move an existing squadron than delete and create.
3) 138 Sqn RAF should change to be equipped with Lancaster III LB, under command of Bomber Command, and arrive as a reinforcement on 9 Mar 1945. Like 161 Sqn above, 138 was on Special Duties flying agents and supplies into occupied Europe. However late in 1944 it was withdrawn from that role (mainly because there was a lot less of Europe still occupied by then) to be re-equipped and retrained as a Main Force bomber squadron.
4) 295 Sqn RAF should be equipped with Albamarle Tr
5) 620 Sqn RAF should be equipped with Stirling IV-V Tr, under command of Transport Command, based at Fairford
6) 196 Sqn RAF should be equipped with Stirling IV-V Tr, under command of Transport Command, based at Kevill
