I may be a bit biased, but this game has kind of ruined me for other war games.
Bill
Me too. Nothing else has gotten me away from this game for the past 6 years.

Took me four or five days to get the first turn ready, had to write stuffs down on the first scenario grand campaign as Japanese vs. AI. Wanted to see how far I can go without screwing things up.

As a new addict to WITP, I have to say that while I agree with all the above posts about the awesomeness of this game, it is most definitely not for everyone. The extreme level of detail and micro-management required, including hundreds of ships; thousands of planes and pilots including their training and day to day operation; hundreds of LCU (land units) that require micro-management to ensure the units you want to be at full strength have priority on the limited spare goodies; thousands of mouse-clicks every turn to handle just day-to-day operation; 100-hours spent setting up the first turn of a 'serious' grand campaign...
...and all that's if you're Allies. As Japan this is magnified by having to manage the movement of material to industrial centers and controlling every aspect of the production of all the materials of war.
If that sound something you'd enjoy doing (as I do!) then this game is a bargain at the price (though my wife might have a different opinion). This is not a game that will appeal to 'immediate gratification' folks; this is a game where a campaign game will potentially go on for a year, if not multiple years!
I hope I didn't paint too negative a picture, but this is a game with detail and micro-management requirement like none other. After playing this game, the volume on other games has gotten turned down to the point I have little interest in other games.
Good luck, hope you buy the game and join our addiction!

True Grognards wanted.....all others need not apply.

However, I believe the numbers are off. It's 1000's of ships and LCU's.[:D][:D]. But yeah, This is a great game. My AE therapist says it's good for me.[:D][:D][:D]....GP

In 1996 I paid $70 for the original GG Pacific War
That would be $106 today with inflation.
Go for it!

hi guys, I got the boxed edition of WITPAE, but matrix sent me an email with a download link. What is this link for?

You will still get the physical copy but the link allows you to download the game right away along with the pdf manual so you can start playing right away. I suggest you start with the Coral Sea scenario as the Allies just to get a feel for the game.

My cat knows no borders.
Is this a new tactical land combat system for WitP? [:D] I assume those are Calvary units in China correct [8|]

hey guys, I have the game and have been playing for a while, but I do have some questions, I noticed that some air squadrons can't be put on board ships and a lot of air squadrons can't be transferred toa different air force, like the air squadrons on the west coast, I can't transfer to Hawaii because there permanently set to IV fighter command, why can't they be put on ships or transferred to Hawaii or other air forces? Is it possible to send supplies to bases via land routes, if so, how? Finally, when I go into the base screen, there is the list showing the fuel and supplies required for the base, but next to that info, there is a yellow "no" and if I click that it switches to "yes", what does that mean?

First off how did that first post get there?
Next I'll ask if you've read the manual? You must, and several times at that.
OK, so those air units you can't load are probably in a restricted command. Need to spend PP's to 'buy' them out. Some (in white) are permanently restricted and can't be bought out. Use them for training.
For the most part supply over land routes will take care of itself. If you find you need more supply at an inland base there are buttons on the base screen to increase the supply at the base.
The yes/no buttons are for stockpiling and are not needed too often. I'd leave them alone until you get more experience as they can hurt more than help if you muck with them. How do I know?[:D] Been there done that.
Hope this helps a bit.

hey guys, I've encountered a problem, I had a convoy deliver two squadrons of P40s to Brisbane, and I ordered them to transfer to Townsville, and after I told them to, they were no longer in the list of squadrons at Brisbane, but I looked at the Townsville aircraft list and they weren't there either. Both of those squadrons disappeared, what happened?

That is what happens when you don't pay attention to the information which is presented to you.
1. The air unit screen shows the maximum range of the aircraft. This info is also found in various other locations.
2. The distance between the current airfield and the new airfield is shown on the transfer screen. This info is also obtainable by other means.
3. When maximum range of aircraft is less than distance between the two airfields, the transfer screen will indicate that the unit is railroaded to its new airfield. The travel time is also shown in the transfer screen.
4. Air units travelling by railroad are found in the air unit reinforcement screen. Travel time is also shown here.
This is covered on pages 146-147 of the manual.

Both what Alfred and General Patton say are correct. If you unload an air unit, unless they were flown from a carrier or unloaded from an AKV, all airframes will show damaged. The planes need to be unpacked from their shipping crates and reassembled. That will take a turn or two. If you try to move them before any planes are put back together and if there is a rail line connecting the hex, the planes will be moved by rail to the new hex. They show up in the reinforcement queue.
The same thing will happen if a unit has some damaged planes and some undamaged. If the new hex is within range, the undamaged planes will fly there and the damaged planes will be transferred by rail. The fragment moved by rail will be connected back up with the parent when they get there by rail.

AAR stands for After Action Reports.
These are player games in progress. They contain some useful info and strategies.
