All this talk about cricket makes me long for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. [:D]

I just hope that there is some Swedish TV channel that I have access to that will broadcast it.

BTW I took my 10 yr old and his mate from his cricket team to the Aus/England game at the MCG last Friday night. It was a great afternoon / night and the kids were only $5 each entry!
And on the way to the MCG we passed a poster which made me laugh and the boys giggle........

Well, Australia are the world champions in front of over 93,000 in Melbourne. They played the final against a worthy opponent in New Zealand, who have been improving for some time and played a tremendous, unbeaten World Cup until the final (including a thrilling win against Australia early on).

New Zealand had an incredibly exciting win against the powerful South Africans in their semi-final and Australia, who had been building up steam all tournament, easily defeated the dangerous India in the other.

New Zealand won the coin toss and batted but the Australian fast bowling machine, led by man-of-the-tournament Mitchell Starc, had them on the back foot with early wickets and accuracy. There was a courageous rescue mission by Elliot and Taylor but then a collapse left Australia with only 184 to get for the win. This is a poor target but under the pressure of a final and with New Zealand's excellent bowling attack, anything could happen.

In fact, after an early wicket, Australia cruised to victory and were clearly too good on the day. Australian captain Michael Clarke, who is retiring from one-day cricket today, hit a crucial 74 from 72 deliveries to help seal the win.

Cheers, Neilster

Steve Smith, who scored heavily all tournament, especially when it counted, hits the winning runs for Australia to win the World Cup.

Woohoo!

This World Cup has been amazing. The kids no longer watch animated shows ... it's 100% cricket. My 6 year old lectures me for not knowing some of the more obscure umpiring signals ... "You aren't a real cricket fan, Dad". My 8 year old hit me for 6 in background cricket this weekend ... not just over the fence of our neighbours house ... but over the next fence as well ... and then sledged me for bowling like Kevin O'Brien (yes I had to look it up to even understand the sledge).

Swimming, anyone?

Well that was probably the greatest one day match in the history of cricket!!!!

Commiserations to New Zealand - so tough to lose like that - but congratulations to England who, at long last, can say they are World Champions!!

Really impressed with some of the New Zealand reaction to the 'Six' or should it be '5' argument.

From the BBC website:

New Zealand batsman Henry Nicholls brushed off the decision as part of the sport.

"It doesn't mean anything to us now. It's the game; things happen," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Sometimes you get the rub of the green. England had a great tournament, they have been the dominant team for the last four years so they deserve to win it."

Something got lost in the translation. Must be one of those British English vs American English things.
