I want to circle back to this briefly. I was playing again this morning and investigated more closely what happened to two of my OH-58s. Both were taken out in close order by a 2S6 Tunguska from 7.5 km away.

In this case I note both ADA and target are on the same elevation, but I kinda question the LOS with Kleinseelheim in the way. I also question the time to acquire and time to track a target at these ranges and the ROE to engage. In this case it was two shots and two kills, so good shooting. I am trying to be more careful and maintain longer standoff, but things like this get my attention.

Again, not much to do about it now, but it's another datapoint for reconsideration going into v2.1.

Helos are considered to be one elevation layer higher than the ground for LOS.

For now, you have to evaluate the AD unit's AD LOS based on its ground LOS.

Now, if you have helos on your side, you can do a shift-click LOS check for a helo and map what is can see as if it were an attacking enemy helo. I am assuming LOS is two way, of course.

If you don't have helos on your side, you can fire up another instance of FPRS, open the scenario editor and set up the map you are on and add a helo. Then you can do LOS checks for that helo.

My understanding is the TAR (Target Acquisition Radar) does a 360 scan every second or so. It build a very good picture of the airspace out to about 20 km from the vehicle.

Once the gunner selects which target he wants to engage (a button push), the TTR (Target Tracking Radar) locks on that target and lays the weapon on the target. That includes the optical sight. The gunner tracks the target with the optical sight and corrections are sent to the missile, much like a SACLOS ATGM (tracker sees a beacon o the tail of the missile and looks at the deviation between the crosshair and the beacon).

I would expect a missile launch happening in under 5 seconds, in the case of multiple targets. Less if there is only one. Don't know how the IFF factors in time wise(does the gunner need to specifically interrogate? ROE? Maneuver/fire control measures?)

Ok thanks. The other side of the coin would be the target helos SOP to minimize vulnerability, evasive actions and counter measures. Overall it feels better now than the with the early versions, so I'll get used to it.

I think (not sure) that countermeasures like flares, chaff, and smoke grenades are modifiers to the Ph (Probability of hit) in general (like terrain bonuses are) and are taken into account, but not visible, per se, while the turn is being resolved.

Jim can tell me if I am off base here, as he knows for sure.

That is correct Jeff. Counter measures, if part of the platform, are factored into the hit/kill code.
