Lost another Glen boat (I-5) near Pearl. This one was MAULED, 51 hits! [X(] But the commander’s dying report identified 4 APAs in the convoy, another amphib wave enroute. Another sub takes 11 hits near Saipan, shouldn’t have attacked 7 DDs.
As I am working my turns, and looking at the dates, it struck me again that the Marianas operation was going on simultaneously to D-Day in Europe. It is simply amazing to consider the industrial might, the manpower, and the level of staff effort to plan and launch the largest amphibious operation in the history of mankind, AND another massive naval/air/amphibious operation on the opposite side of the globe, at the same time! [&o]
