I may play even worse when I'm sober [;)].
The real problem for me is drowsiness - due to RL contraints I often have to play late at night in order to squeeze out a PBEM turn - and it is hard to concentrate at 2am! So in case my opponent is wondering why the timestamp of the combat replay file and of the save file differ by 8 hours - that's not a sign of thorough planning!

Shhhhhhhhh! Don't reveal the secret! [:D]
Sometimes I rerun the turn near the end of my work to see the replay one last time, then I finish the turn, so the timestamp is like a 10 minute difference even though I've spent 3 hours on the turn. Other times I also fall asleep (after drinks) and it's 8 hours when I spent 20 minutes on the game. [;)]

At the risk of invoking a former US President's tag line, it all depends on what you mean by being "drunk."
Falling down sloppy drunk? No way .... you can't play WITP-AE in any condition like that. If you are wasted away in Margaretville you should play Monopoly with a hot chick; the consequences for going bankrupt well known by both participants.
However, if you are hinting at a mental state more like a Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb" .... well, I think you could argue that is the condition when you SHOULD play WITP-AE. Assuming you know the game well, there is a certain Zen characteristic to the rhythm of turns; there is holistic top-level perspective that needs to be maintained. As I often poke my Allied PBEM partner ... there exists a mysticism about a well executed KB strike and rapid retreat into the fog-of-war hinterlands.
Sinking an enemy carrier, any carrier, deserved a good shot or two of Scotch. Relish and savor the moment ... it doesn't get any better.
Contemplating the next three months of operations is best done with wine glass and a good bottle of Chardonnay next to the computer.
I am sure there are some avid WITP-AE players who would heartily disagree, but this game and moderate buzz from some too expensive brand of booze go hand-in-hand.
godchaos, your issues is one of quality and quantity .... leave the gallon jugs of Mad Dog 20/20 to 3rd person shooter players ... this game deserves a bit more respect!

Feltan

The theory of Godochaos is discredited. I have tested doing a turn without having a drink - and promptly lost Yamashiro and two DDs to a cruiser SAG. I should have known better! Granted, the same result may have occurred with a drink - but such losses hurt less when the brain is numb...

I started a PBEM last december after I suffered a major concussion at work. I made moves I didn't remember and made quite a few mistakes. Still recovering from the game mistakes and happy to say some high quality meds are finally helping with the memory.[:D]....GP
But I do sit down with a glass of some fine scotch on the rocks and do my turns. On days off that is

Also if JWE stops by, please change back to your old avatar - it seems so much more appropriate for this thread.

Symon say, de t'read comments raise many implicashuns. What do you load in de splif? Oaxaca or Michuacan or Red Panama? I like Speyside and Lowlands single malt Scotch. Symon plays how he is. Sometime, de 'ting be good, sometime de 'ting be bad. In de end it all be like what it was, so no reason to call on something otherworldly.[:D]
[ed] Symon like de little bunny. He look like a sushi chef. A joke, it is and always was a joke. I hope my friends who are Rastafari will understand and know I mean no harm.

I think up the most amazing missions when I have had a few. So far not bitten in ass too bad as a result....may make opponents think I'm a little off kilter though! Bombarding northern Japan in Jan '42 was a couple bottles of good shiraz I think.
Speaking of drinking while playing, my Aussie opponent and I are exchanging cases of wine for each other to sample. I hope the BC wines aren't too flaccid for an Aussie!

I've never been drunk, even while in the military. [8|]

A little bit of wine or a hard cider once in a while is nice, but I've never been drunk either. As soon as I start to feel it, I quit because I hate the buzzed feeling.

No such restrictions here. Whatever the mood of the moment happens to be, I indulge it. Everything from ice water to a nice single malt always makes the turns flow.
