Yep - have to agree -right click in the minimap to move the main map to the minimap location,

Actually that's a left click. It works like this.

Left click on the mini-map centres the main screen on the place you clicked. It does not matter which unit you have selected. It could be 50 miles from the last unit you selected. It will still centre there.

Right click:
- Move around the main map and select a friendly unit. Right click on the mini-map. The main screen and the mini-map will both move and centre on that unit

- In this game one unit is ALWAYS selected (bad design). Move anywhere around the map and right click on the mini-map. It will NEVER centre on your current location. Instead it will always centre on the last unit you selected.

So as this newby said, I can not get the mini-map to centre on my current location on the main map (unless I have a selected unit on my screen).

This issue was solved in 1998 in a wargame called Computer War in Europe 11. I am always astonished that game developers ignore elegant solutions.

Hit 'B' and type in a location to center the map there.

Ugh, not exactly a convenient way to do it; I was hoping that the UI revamp would address issues like this.

Generally, I agree with the OP, although what he's saying would only become especially useful if the "mini-map" were replaced with a "jump map" which showed the entire map, with a box showing the main map's location in the overall map. I think the PzC series does this pretty well--the jump map is usually hidden, but can be opened/closed with a hotkey, can be moved around, and it shows the whole map:

Nothing fancy, but it works quite well.

Yeah, that looks better than 'B'.

Sicily is kinda small though. Got a screen shot of anything bigger so we can see how well it fits? ETO, PTO ?

Here's one for the Minsk campaign, which covers an area of about 360 x 350 km (ie, hexes; blue and red dots show units, yellow shows objectives):

But it really doesn't matter how big it is--the jump map always shows the whole map, the square representing the main map just shrinks if the jump map covers a larger area.

In comparison, TAOW's mini-map is just not very useful in my opinion.

the jump map always shows the whole map

Then the only difference would be that TOAW currently has the little map that is always on screen, but it looks like that aspect would be far offset by a floating, sizeable, moveable, full map view jump map. Sounds like a smashing possible improvement !

This is exactly what I have been asking for since at least JANUARY. Shows the ENTIRE map no matter how large it is. No scrolling involved where as the mini map in TOAW still involves time consuming scrolling. [8|]

Actually, just to be clear, it is not sizeable, but is floating and moveable.

it is not sizeable

In 1969 I dreamed of 2015 ... now it is all such a disappointment [:(]

I just thought of a simple solution to my problem with the mini map:

A button (or hot key) that centers the mini map around the current main map view.

Yeah, no flying cars nor robot maids like Rosie. But computers are smaller than a house. [;)]
