I have to disagree, because I'm the worst player. At least playing Japan, I have never even tried GC allies.

Usually my cunning plans end up loosing lots of carriers and other capital ships. In my ongoing game it's now Feb 1944 and I've lost every japanese fleet carrier. Every one of them, only couple CVLs and CVEs left. Lost them for nothing, because allies have lost just one or two CVs. And what about my surface fleet? Let's say that last month fast escort class ships (those with couple torpedo tubes) have been fighting against allied fleet...

We should sometimes play against each other. Worst allied player vs. worst japanese player. [:)]

I can see the ARR now, entitled "Battle for the Bottom"

So, after ten years of this game. I have finally decided that I am simply the worst player in WITP history. Like easily.

Game one, my opponent rolled over China and Burma like the hexes were empty. So swift was his conquest of both of them he is now pouring into India and we haven't gotten out of February.

Game two, my opponent has literally taken the entire south pacific, DEI, the PI, 80 percent of China. He all but ignored Burma, instead took Ceylon and is now pouring into south India with multiple divisions. We just got to March 42. That one is pretty game over.

Game three, my opponent has Carriers marauding off of Karachi supporting his swift move on the west coast of India after multiple amphib invasions. I can't even slow him down since the Royal Navy pretty much sunk.

Game four, I decided to be the Japanese and try something different. I am bogged down in China, and just watched all my carriers absorb multiple 1000 lb bombs Noumea. The did very little in response. It's January. I cannot figure out how my japanese opps are landing in India and I can't even get out of China :P.

I have to disagree, because I'm the worst player. At least playing Japan, I have never even tried GC allies.

No, you are miss interpreting your strategy ... you are on a fuel saving strategy. Fewer ships, burn less fuel!!!
I employ the fish farming strategy, remarkably similar, to keep all of my people fed. [:D][:D][:D]

My fuel saving strategy is definitely working. I already have enough fuel for the rest of the war. Maybe I just stand down my entire tanker fleet. That'll make allies wonder...

But didn't you know, fish prefer american steel. [;)]

I don't know...

Cannonfodder has rolled me over pretty thoroughly. China is extinct. Half of India is gone. Japanese sitting at Suva.

The light bulb tends to come on after it's happened.

If you ever wanna go as the Japanese against the allies, I may take you on, just to make you feel better. I lost the entire merchant marine in my last game. I was literally down to 7 AK's in the entire theater! By May!

I would elect Dan as the worst WITP player ever.
because:
He left us hanging after the earliest counter invasion in RL or WITP. MAN< I WANTED TO KNOW IF HE COULD PULL IT OFF!!!!!!

I ought to set the record straight! Zulu is referring to my game with John III that ended around Sept. 10, 2013. It wasn't I that actually pulled the plug on that game, but rather John III! However, in the interest of the "whole truth," I had seriously floated the idea of calling the game for a variety of reasons, including some real life matters and a massive case of AE burnout. I had requested a ceasefire and it's all but certain that I would have soon resigned, but John called the game before I could make that formal. :)

As to the topic of this thread, so many good players have suffered so many public, highly embarrassing defeats. Especially Allied players. Anybody remember raverdave?

On my own score, I had John sink most of the Allied Death Star on the south edge of the map in one of my first games, perhaps ten years ago. I had managed the run the Death Star out of fuel somewhere in the middle of nowhere. It was making two hexes per turn.

I suck!

The funny thing about this is that I was running AWAY from your CV TF's.

Well, not so funny for you. Even my 12 year old son said, "Dad, I hope those aren't your carriers getting hammered."

I’m old and my memory is shot. Task forces show up in a port and I can’t remember why they are there.

True, I feel your pain and I can relate. Its why I started giving TF's names that will help remind me of what they're doing. Now what really hurts is when I do this and still can't remember what the h**l the convoy's there for.

**seriously, I have friends that have become alcoholics, left their wives for tattooed one night stands, and
utterly embarrassed themselves in public since I've been playing. But I am free of guilt, happy as a clam, and
having fun.(and I've just been AV'd). Stay the course!

That was a GLORIOUS moment way down south!

Would have really loved to see how that invasion of Sumatra would have played out. Dan is correct. He was facing serious burnout and is a GREAT player and Gentleman. Really miss playing him but he is in a better place chasing the Civil War and Southern dreams...check out his fabulous periodical. I do believe it is Georgia Backroads.

As a consolation to any who might benefit, I am the worst player ever who is or was a gorn. I am also the best one ever (who is or was a gorn).

Well I have yet to win a game against a human player.... maybe I should play a gorn.
while it totally stinks getting beat like a screen door during a hurricane, I still enjoy it..
that is until I have no fleet left...:)
maybe we should have a 'losers' bracket that will force someone to win..lol

LOL...I was sitting there watching dauntlesses pound my carriers and thinking ...well at least my air groups are up and getting revenge...only half of them were just sitting on the deck.

[:D]

I'm dumb enough of course to want to play you again :P

There are so many variables as to what can make a PBEM game go bad early: die rolls, mismatch of player capabilities, experience, and tactics. But typically a PBEM game either sees Japan overrun China, Burma, India, the DEI & PI, the Eastern Pacific, and land in Australia by April 1942... OR - loose the KB in a heartbeat (show's over very early).... that is why MOST games never see 1943.

The broadest reason most of this happens is that the Allies (in China, Malaya, & the DEI) start pre-defeated (generally very weak). This was originally done so the AI could make the historical time table of conquest in the first 6 months. That works well enough when playing the AI - but - give that situation to a GOOD player and the result is a game that can go out of balance - fast.

I suppose that is why so many PBEM Players want "house rules".... but that is also why there are mods,
