They are in zip-files so a lot of maps put together in one file.

All the ASL based TotH maps are 10 hexes wide by 33 hexes long. The rotated maps are just the normal ASL maps built upside down and are still 10x33.

Believe the template orientation when building scenarios is hard-coded into the system so maps sit on their skinny side (vertical placement). Cannot rotate.

As most monitors are much wider than tall horizontal maps or the ability to rotate them to the horizontal would make a lot of sense. [:D]

I was working up a map for the Texas Flood scenario and since I went ahead and created a couple of new map boards, I thought I'd do my part as a newbie to Tigers on the Hunt and add them here for your downloading pleasure. Board 3a is from Action Pack 6 - A Decade of War, and 6a is from Action Pack #8 - Roads through Rome.

The boards are interesting as they don't follow the standard ASL board configuration as found in the modules, so I had to split each board into two parts (Each board is 20 hexes deep and 17 hexes across). In the Texas Flood scenario, they are meant to butted against boards 7, 16, 44 and 40. I made them to butt up against the "bottom" of those boards. If you rotate the image below 90 degrees to the left you'll get my meaning.

I had to substitute debris hexes for the cemetery hexes as well as bushes in place of all of the marsh hexes.

Hopefully these boards will be useful to anyone creating scenarios, but even if they aren't, they proved to be a good learning tool for using the map editor [:)]

As always, suggestions and comments are welcome!

Anyone still using the custom maps posted above as opposed to coming up with your own designs?

Using custom maps posted for specific scenarios.
Personally, I'm having more fun modding the terrain file for graphics to be like Batisse' style [http://vasl.batisse.free.fr/index.html]
Even toying with creating 'unused' terrain graphics in place of existing with possible similar TEF. Like replacing Lumberyard 2 with Swamp...or a Ford instead of Debris (@UP844 [;)])

Hi Technikzauberer,

Just read your post. Nice looking graphics.

How do you download the vasl graphics, and incorporate them into a game ?

You can get several mods from the "Submitted Mods" section but here is a direct lu nk to the VASL mod: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=4031833

1. Download the mod and unzip the file
2. Make a backup copy of the Terrain.png file located in the Graphics folder (Important otherwise you can't go back)
3. Paste the moded Terrain.png file into the Graphics folder and you are done.

Hi Paullus,

Thanks for that.

What I'm after is the ETO terrain tiles, that Technikzauberer talks about.

Given the way TotH handles terrain, there is no easy way to import or change en masse.

Using Photoshop or GIMP, been creating my own graphics or scraping from creative VASL boards to replace the individual terrain graphics in the terrain.png file. Some of this has created terrain sets I really prefer over others out there, with a favorite being one with 3d shading for elevations and features plus others of my preferred VASL artwork features [shell holes, rough, etc.].

Other fave to do is to replace some of the existing terrain features with others of my own, to create a bit more diversity and perhaps make for interesting maps/scenarios [bearing in mind the existing terrain effects]. Replacing lumberyards was a common theme.

Honestly, haven't done in some time and [sheepishly] had never posted any as terrain mods...been too busy with work/life of late.

Cheers!

I have been really interested in doing some desert scenarios. Guess I need to buckle down and see what changes to the terrain file I can work up towards that end.

Truly awesome maps' set!
A beautiful and great source of inspiration,
combined with DoubleDeuce's link to ASL Mapboards
in his "Mapping Ideas" thread ...
Thank you (very late but sincerely).

As a sequel to "Neither Fear nor Mercy" mini Campaign Game:

- the whole map in BIG format (a "BigMap") and 1 JPG file of it; eight submaps (in MAP format).

Please, see next post for the download link...
