RE: Crazy experience gains - ships

And since this high exp gain is due to anti-aircraft action, it may also mean crew experience can influence the outcome of future air attacks on ships.
What's your Strategy?

I am sure that crew experience figures into damage control calculations. It might mean the difference between going down or limping away.ORIGINAL: Lokasenna
Remember that there is probably a random element to whether a ship in port fires at attacking aircraft at all.
Also keep in mind that really, by and large, experience gains for merchantmen mean almost nothing.

So we are seeing soon the great merchant marine nerf of 2016 ? Damit I loved it when my Kasu-Ds duked it out with the Fletchers![]()

Basically the ships gain '1' exp each time it has AAA to fire at planes, up to the magical 50 exp level. Then it starts to get hard to gain the extra points as with other experience calculations.
My planned simple tuning will cover the pre-50 experience:
1. Firing of flak - combat ships have a better chance to gain experience than non-combat ships, and
2. The exp gained will be randomized to include 0. (which is 50/50 chance of getting the '1' point gain.)

Whatever michaelm did, now the merchant ships gain ZERO exp when firing AA guns.
After the patch, shooting AA guns 10 times should on average give you 5 exp points, or maybe 2-3 exp points if you factor in the fact that the merchants were supposed now to gain exp more slowly . However, I was unable to gain even 1 exp point among several selected TFs with DP guns sitting in Singapore and shooting at several waves of Sallys.
Finally, this unlucky behemoth from TF422 arrived in Batavia and instead of harvesting exp, she found her doom. She kept firing, and firing, and firing, and finally sunk at her class max exp of 15/15 points.
Naval ships have a higher experience threshold without battle than Merchant ships. Making an AKE gives it a naval crew.ORIGINAL: Yaab
Found another strange case.
This is xAK Ethel Edwards being converted to AKE class at start in Manila. Seems she got her experience raises during her time in the Manila's shipyard. Either she fired her AA or her crew got retrained on a double for their new duties on an AKE.
