About the screenie

For those who are curios, what this screen shot is trying to represent is the new techniques in the CL editor for the creation of hills and the abiltiy of sun/shadow line shading. It's is still being perfected, but for those who can't see it easily here is the image with contour lines drawn showing where the hill is.

It´s far too early to make a serious statement regarding this. But what do you have system wise ;) ?

Chief here is what were looking at right now, but as Marc stated it's still too early to really tell until the code is finished and optimized.

System Specifications:
Windows 95 / 98 /Me / 2000 /XP
Pentium 300 MHZ (or faster)
64 MB of RAM Recommend 128 MB
32 MB 3D graphics card.
Soundcard (DirectX 8.0 compatible)
150 MB of free hard drive space
DirectX 8.1
8x CD-Rom

Jim: Me, no just kidding. The pre-beta team is set for now, but when the beta is ready for public testing I'm sure we'll be looking for plenty of public insight and comments, and I can recommend just about every SPWAW veteran within this forum as they will be great fair an unbiased testers. Patience :D

The screenshot is mesmerizing indeed, but honestly, contour or not, I cannot see that there is a hill in there. It should be more evident, IMHO. And hills, too, should create some sort of shadow...

Oh, Gmenfan, maybe this thread fits better in CL Forum ;)

Marc: Tanks for reply....heck I'm still on Win95b, P2, DX7?, 64Mbs, S3 Virge PCI display adapter....operates SPwaw fantastically, but without updating, it looks like CL will be to new for my hand cranked calculator and hand painted screen. Oh well such is life. By the way will there be a demo of this so us old unit people can try it out of curiousity ? By the way I have 22 Gbs of HD space, that is a plus.

Gmenfan: Tank you for your reply also, as you can see I used your answer for Marc...two for one...

Thanks Guys.....Can't risk an update now, Federal court says that we (military retirees) don't rate medical care after 20 years service, awaiting results of Supreme Court decision/appeal. So I say unto you "Ship for the Bennies".

The new map graphics are stunning!

It's good to see that all the legendary Stel Panthers scenario designers are excited about Combat Leader, because a good game needs an active community of supporters.

This is what has made Steel Panthers so great. So much great stuff has been designed and more is coming all time, that it's simply impossible to play everything. It's because of you guys I find myself allocating 90% of my playing time to SP, even if I have newer titles on my harddrive, that certainly are technically superior to good old Steel Panthers.

Yes, you will need to upgrade then ;)

gmenfan: I know this is asking a lot, but for what you did on that screen, the circling of something, will we be able to pause the game, assuming there's something like a continual enemy phase such as in SPWAW, where we can circle an area of the map and have it stick until we erase it?

Marc, any possibility of offering lower quality graphics toggles for use on older/slower systems? Mine barely meets the requirements and upgrading is out of the question for the next year or so.

Yes you can toggle of things like unit shadows (those are engine casted and not part of the graphic), various animations, weather effects etc.. However the game takes some ressources, that is due to the very very flexible map design.

The screenie makes a nice wallpaper, but I keep having to close out all my apps to see it! Gonna be nice.

Charles_22: I'm not totally sure on what your asking about pausing the game to draws circles. This outline was manually drawn from within the map editor, which will be the only place you have this type of capability to do something like this. It was for presentation only, I don't see how this would benifit within a scenario design.
