Editing General.opt seems to increased it even more after adding the exception for Defender. Thanks for all the help!

UPDATE to my message below. I thought I would turn Windows Defender off just for the duration of playing the game and this makes it works fine. I hope this might help others. Must turn it back on after play.

--------------

Will this get fixed in a patch soon?

I've tried doing these fixes and keep getting "access denied" or some such. It's my PC and I am the only administrator/user so I thought I could do these things without having to go through a whole series of menus.

Also, as reported elsewhere by others, I often have to click three or four times on an X for the click to register.

Thirty Years War works OK for me so this ECW ought to as well I hope. I have low spec machines with Intel HD so I do not expect lightning performance.

Thanks.

Don 't turn off the Windows Defender, create an exception rule instead, like it's explained in a previous post.

Changing in settings the General.opt ....LogBatch from 10 to 100 seems to solve the scrolling and selecting units problem.

Maybe this should be Sticked?

Cheers

Changed the log batch to 100; still jerky. Don't have defender.

add the game exe to your AV program or uninstall and install elsewhere, outside the default install location eg C:/Matrix Games etc etc

Turning off Webroot Security Anywhere worked; I don't know how to exclude programs in it.

don't turn it off, always bad advice, unless you're offline tbh

Code: Select all

Right. I learned how to exclude with Webroot. Works fine now. Thanks.

You could also delete the file named "Userpath.ini". This will make the log files and the saved games files be saved in the game main installation folder.
Some anti-virus are just too paranoic when there's a software accessing the Windows documents (...Documents\My Games\English Civil War) area.
After having deleted the file you have to start a new game, otherwise the game will still save the game in the Windows documents folder.

I'm running an old PC with Vista. I followed the advice and adjusted the logbatch and scrolling is significantly better:)

I tried it on an old XP laptop and it ran OK after that change to the general.opt file.

I was having issues with slowness and I followed all the steps above and in the AGEOD thread, but now im getting an applications permissions issue every 15 minutes which makes no sense at all given i double checked admin privileges. I really love this game, just hope I can get it to work consistently :(

Thanks VPaulus I've been wondering how to do that.... I really like saved games in the game folder. 'Most' of my other Ageod games save in the game folder and I rarely have a problem with them.

I'm also getting admin right crashes even though the game is run as admin. and installed outside of program files. perhaps writing to the log in 'my documents' is a possible cause.

Try running it as admin, or reinstalling the game outside of program files.
