Win 10 64 bit Pro
Picked pro so that I have more control, and I picked win 10 because I built a new machine about 1.5 years ago, and I always install the latest windows version.
I have mixed feelings about win 10. Sometimes it's good, other times, not so good.

Win 7 on 5 year old desktop (backup computer mostly for the kids) and Win 10 on my new laptop. I'm satisfied.

I have Window 10 64 bit. Hey, I'm not an Apple user but no apple aficionados. Used to get one or two using that system. What did everyone here abandon it?

Same here, Windows 10 64 bit. This is for X-Plane 10 and to load plenty of sceneries in it. Looks like X-Plane 11 is heaviest [:(]

I've got about five computers in total between work and home; four of the five on Win10 64, one desktop on Win7. Win10 is much better IMHO, I think you'd have to be kind of nutty to go out of your way to get a Win7 machine.

Windows 10, since pre-launch. I have never had any problem, not with gaming, not with anything. Multiple machines.

I have 4 laptops (my wife says I cannot bear to part with any lol) and a desktop - all running Windows 10 Home edition. I have had it since Win 10 came out and have not had many issues running Matrix (or other) games that are not too old. I would recommend Win10 since Windows 7 is end of life for support and updates.

For my development work and general computing, I use Windows 10, Windows 7, SUSE Linux, and Ubuntu Linux on a daily basis. (On Windows, I am a heavy Cygwin user.) For actual game play, it's typically Windows 7 or Ubuntu Linux (running the games on Linux Wine).

WinXP on this desktop and Win7 on my laptop. Trying to get 1 other desktop to work with Win7 on it. I would like to have a Linux machine with Wine if it runs Vassalengine.

Thanks for all the responses guys. It's very interesting how a vast a majority of people are with Windows 10 64 Bit. I'm actually using it as well, however I'm considering switching to linux for a bit after having been reading
some articles about it. It is quite flexible and can be quite quicker and more secure. However it requires some more technical knowledge to operate. Does anybody have experience with this?

25+ years experience. I began using Linux c. 1992. Truly, for me, both professionally and personally, Linux is one of the best things ever.
Linux has many, many virtues. Among them, it runs acceptably fast on older hardware. And yes, it is generally more secure.
Unless you plan to get another system, or will be dual booting your machine, as a gamer I wouldn't commit totally to Linux, though. Under Linux Wine, I can play the games that really matter to me -- Campaign Series, all JTS games (including Panzer Battles, Civil War Battles, etc.), TOAW, Schwerpunkt Middle East -- all of them play fine on Linux. (Lock'n Load: Heroes of Stalingrad also plays well on Linux.) Most other war games I have tried are no-goes. Not to say my list exhausts the Linux Wine possibilities. But among the other games in my collection, most all of them choke in one way or another on Linux. So beware.

I am making the switch to Ubuntu and need to know how to get my JTCS, CSME, and Order of Battle games to work without Windows. All the games are win versions and I am running Ubuntu 16.04. Help! going through withdrawal.

Install Wine. Then install your games to run under Linux Wine. Sorry I can't handhold you through the process. There should be all sorts of HOW-TOs, maybe even videos, available on the Internet on how to install Wine on Ubuntu, then do installs in Wine. Just Google it.
JTCS & CSME should work fine under Linux Wine; at least they do for me. I wouldn't expect Order of Battle to work, however. Although I own the game, from the looks of it (flashier graphics), I expect it wouldn't work well on Wine.
(TOAW III worked for me on Wine in the past. I don't know yet about the new TOAW IV.)
Good luck.

Win 10 64 bit - for games, especially new stuff on Steam, Win 10 guarantees compatibility. I cannot imagine the hassle of using another OS.

TOAW IV crashes and burns on my Linux Wine setup. Just FYI.

Berto, do you use Linux/Wine to aid in CSME development vs Windows?
