The betas only change the EXE file and deliver new /dll files. They shouldn't change the map or the pwhex file underneath that I know of.

If you were playing stock Quiet China why did you change the map at all?

Rookie mistake, looking for better graphics. I won't do that again.

You may know this, but in case you don't . . .

The map art is just bit-map graphics laid out in a checkerboard. There's no logic in the map graphics. It's just colored pixels. The data that the EXE talks to is in the pwhex file. That file has a data set for every hex on the map that contains terrain info, road/rail, national ownership, and other stuff. It ties the graphics together with the info that makes it a "game map."

Each map mod has its own unique pwhex file. You have to change both at once. If you have the wrong pwhex for the new bit maps then you get strange stuff happen. The EXE thinks hex x,y is a mountain range, but on your map graphics it's a port. But the EXE believes the pwhex as "truth"and plays on. Very odd stuff can happen.

Thanks. I didn't know any of that. Understanding what's under the hood make for a better gaming experience.

- Grandpa, what did you do in the war?
- I was stuck in Aden for the entire war, because the brass got their maps wrong. Did my best to get out of there, but every time a ship arrived they just couldn't dock there as if the port didn't exist. Can you believe it?
