Man, I wouldn't re-do the turn, either as the IJ player or the Allied player.

Either way, I'd either forge ahead or, as the Japanese player, I'd concede the game and encourage my opponent to start over on December 7 (which is, what, one day back?).

A do-over is amorphous and unsatisfying...or should be. A concession is an acknowledgement of a decisive result with the nice option of stepping back one day.

Good job, Wargmr.

Well, maybe I misworded it. I simply changed the 3 surface task forces to not attack but the rest of the turn ran the same. There were some significant considerations.

I have spent probably 40+ hours doing the allied turn. I would still have to invest another 30+ hours doing that turn again if we stared over from scratch if my opponent was even willing.

I am also claiming a mulligan for future if I need it.

Thank you CR

The oilers eventually escape but are bumped into again by the same CL STF and the ships are finished off.

The night time phase ends and the daytime begins. I credit excellent naval search overnight for pinpointing the position of the carriers and giving me a really good DL.

Mike plastered the PH runway to 86% damage. This did not prevent flights from nearby bases running naval search in the dark so that my STF's would run into his carrier group. It did not happen that way but the search definitely upped the morning DL.

Here are the ship commands for the TF's in question.

They were all supposed to return to Lihue and dispand before dawn. Even with patrol set to 0 days it seems to hang up on the first waypoint. I think that is what happened here but due to the location of the carrier fleets the STF reacted into them in the day phase.

Good job, Wargmr.

As the only other Japanese player I've seen to have had this happen, I agree!

And here I am in April 44 playing Canoerebel in a continued game that started by losing half the KB on day 2. So he could keep going. Just makes for a tense and interesting game where the Allies can take some chances. When the Allies do take those chances, sometimes the Japanese can get something back.

Anyways, nice settings and bold move.

Thank you sir. Yes, it would make for a very challenging game. However, it would really negate the purpose of testing the mod for Mike. The game would be exceedingly lopsided with Japan not being able to expand much.

We tried to have my combat ships not attack and it was a disaster in the other direction. I moved all my ships to the base south of Pearl but Mike's search found them and destroyed most of the capital shipping. Again, not a great outcome and not very balanced.

So, I have to do turn 2 over. We have agreed to leave turn 1 as is with the Japanese retreating on day 2 rather than doing a 2nd day attack.

Day 1 was average so we start off on a relatively neutral playing field.

I cant really be too tough on a returning JFB player given that I have been playing every day for quite a few years now.

FYI, Mike did concede the game and thank me, he didnt ask for a redo, that was my idea.

Maybe you should start over and him not do a 2nd day attack on PH, this one of the outcomes of hanging. I did this to an opponent as well i didn't get the fine results you did but I did sink 2 CVs and damage 2 more. We played another 9 mines and he threw in the towel.

Price of doing a 2nd day attack....it is a great opening, and the game fully deserve being played to normal conclusion.

Really, Japan should be able to recover...and put up a great game.

Well played Mike- I should have warned your opponent how aggressive and dangerous you are[:D]

I have to echo, your mulligan was very gracious offer. I am concerned that a player capitulating on the 2nd day does not bode well for a long game though. Hopefully, I am completely wrong about this ...

So we did a rewind to after day 1 with the KB retiring rather than striking for day 2.

I have managed to sting my opponent a few times with CAP. He lost a wing of bombers from one of his CVL groups and is searching for resources to resupply his navy.

This is giving time for the thundering herd to disappear from the Phillipines and DEI.

Dont get me wrong, he isnt moving all that slow. Dec 12 and Miri fell today along with several northern bases on Luzon.

I think I will easily empty Soerbaja of the 100K fuel reserve. Wondering how many ships to sacrifice trying to empty palembang.

Given that Mike has never played a game past 1943, I dont think he is prepared to manage the economy long run. It has to be done at least a few times to get good at it I think.

I want to focus on messing up the fuel/oil situation given his extra combat shipping.

I have managed to hit 3 or 4 unescorted bomber groups already in the war.

Miri is captured. The oil and refineries are 1/2 damaged losing the Japaese player about 50K oil per year.

Those industries at Miri and Brunei start out with half their potential "damaged", to simulate oil fields under development. It allows either player to choose to develop the oil and refinery further or save their supply.
