The situation at the end of T9. Not too bad, but... well?! Could be better, eh?

T11. Yes, the Soviets had the initiative for 2 turns... and they somehow to manage to inflict some serious, alas not real killer damage.

A Marginal Victory, just about that. The Soviets, for some reason, only started to pressure me the last 2-4 turns; not bad.

Now, it's your turn to play the Soviets and see if you can do better, eh?

P.S. Please, Do let me know what tutorial I could offer you next, OK?

A bit (O)ff(T)opic: For those of you, and I am sure there are quite many rather than a few, who are wondering how the combat system works 'under the hood'; it's worth examining the toawlog.txt. I use Notepad++ (very good program!) to read the .txt out and use bits even for, well, AARs and kinda little TOAW IV combat report stories. Notice the highlighted information? Artillery really does smash fortifications and entrenchment rates, eh?

Indeed, that's when it really hurts ;) I like the toawlog.txt; gives you the best insight... might even do a tutorial about what one can use to make an even
more enjoyable AAR or a cartoon.

Herr Oberst

The toawlog.txt. Is there one for each save game or just for the last turn run regardless of save?

Danke

every time you start a new game the old toawlog.txt is going to be overwritten.
What I do is, I make sure I rename it for potential AAR use and analysis.

Edit: Turn saves attached, nearly forgot about that.

Here an extraction of the toawlog.txt

ATCombat : 8.8cm Flak 36 current effective accuracy vs. T-34/76 (late): 32%.
ATCombat : Chance of penetration on T-34/76 (late) [8 @ 68 degrees -> 9] by
8.8cm Flak 36 [12] is 100%.
ATCombat : Effective hit on Soviet Union T-34/76 (late) by Axis 8.8cm Flak 36.
Combat : T-34/76 (late) destroyed. (specificAttrit=3)

Recommended viewing/listening to understand the concept of the operational art of war as well as how to identify the 'Schwerpunkt' aka centre of gravity.

I am more than happy to work on yet another episode of the apparently appreciated(?!) Tutorial 'XX series... but I need some feedback what I could cover. River crossings, How to use artillery to pound fortifications to dust, smaller scale 1km/hex (1, 3 or 6hrs turns) combined arms, like JTS does, basically a TOAW IV version of Brigade/Regimental Commander? The good thing about the latter, I can utilize the TO&E from SPWAW...

So?

An old thread that explain the philosophy behind some .EQP modifications I implemented in Tutorial 'XX and the Kharkov '43 scenarios:

Also attached, the EquipmentList.rtf that gives designers and newbies some insight in how certain parameters are defined.

Splendid! As in... well, bridge attack, airfield attack, interdiction, AS, CAS... I guess that cries out for a Tutorial '44... let my grunts of 106th Infantry experience the 'death from above'? Sturmoviks, Yak against the grunts and perhaps some Me-262 and Ar-234B on the German side? :D Doable, I guess...

A good example how even low estimates of bridge attacks can have a good outcome can be found at my Tutorial '44. Like historically, fighter-/dive bombers seem to have a real better chance to smash them than high altitude bombers, despite the estimates.

OK peeps, that's the whole Tutorial 'xx series at present. Please do forgive me the countless typos in various 'speech bubbles'; I'll try to go through the whole slides (quite a few!!!) and correct them. The whole project is not finished yet, alas I do require direct feedback, positive or negative. Feel free to post your feedback in threads or PM/Email me. Thanks!
