I gave the fleet the order to do naval interception if we may encounter enemy ships.
Fleet was given an offensive posture too.

The second Illyrian war is starting. Demetrios of Pharos has betrayed us after his queen Teuta during the first Illyrian war if I remember well.
Illyrian pirates, funny such as in Star Trek.

The fleet has arrived without intercepting anything. And here is my first big mistake (I remember I am a newbie here).
I have moved the fleet to the sea location next to Sena Gallica and not Sena Gallica. Argh!!!

So what to do now? Putting the fleet in the harbor of Sena Gallica for resting is costing me 6 days and I am losing a turn.
Pharos is fortified like Issa but not Histrii Oppidum.

I will go for Histrii Oppidum.

I have three siege works at disposal but I will have to keep some for later.

I am moving the fleet to Histrii Oppidum. Same offensive posture and same order to do naval interception if we may encounter enemy ships.

To finish, I am building one tradepost in Emporiae and one in Massalia. My merchants will be pleased.

My ships are now blocking the harbor of Histrii. No naval interception occurs.

My legions are in Histrii but they have lost cohesion.
Worst, Sextus Pomponius has disembarked at Histrii Oppidum instead of Paullus. Strange?

As such, my legions are now suffering a command penalty.

To regain cohesion, I will not attempt anything this turn. Thus, putting back my army in defensive posture.

Finally, I am asking Paullus to disembark. He will led my legions next turn.

Far better, the command penalty no longer exist. However, I will have to monitor my food supply.

This is time for the fleet to go back to Sena Gallica for resupply. I am ordering Sextus Pomponius to assume back command of the fleet. 5 days later, waiting for him, the fleet will be able to sail to Sena Gallica.

shouldn't need to send the fleet back. Usually a fleet carries far more supply than it needs so it becomes a floating depot (albeit one that can sink on you).

Hover over the supply symbol and it'll tell you if it has surplus supply.

What you can do is to send an empty supply wagon back out to the fleet, it'll draw on that surplus and then you can return it to the land - should take 3 turns for the round trip. Allows you to sustain a siege of a coastal city quite well - as long as you don't get hit by winter or have to fight.

More generally, keep your fleets in the defensive stance. Two reasons:

a) they don't lose cohesion very fast so can stay at sea longer;
b) if they fight, the defensive value far outweighs the attack value so you gain an advantage

Thank you loki, I appreciate your advices. This is a good way to learn the game. Will do so next turns.

With Paullus on the command of the legions, the next turn, we have succeeded to do a breach in Histrii.
An assault posture is thus ordered for Paullus to assault the city.

Fleet in Sena Gallica is resupplied as well. Everything is green is terms of food and ammunition. So, I ordered it back to block the harbor of Histrii.

On its way to Histrii, the fleet has intercepted Illyrian ships... Another success.

With the conquest of Histrii, it is time for Paullus to reembark. The fleet will bring him back to Sena Gallica for supply and rest. Next objective will be Pharos.
