Dear Mark,

will pick up the test turn later this evening.
I have experienced the communications error when I tried to save (this should be possible, right?). To end the turn was possible in my game.

Regards,
Hanno

I've just tested on my end again between two pseudonyms and it all worked as expected, saving and ending a turn so I'm still at a loss as to why your one game is giving you problems. Saving might give you a -5 error if the server is having temporary issues while you are attempting to save but it also should not be consistent every time you attempt to save.

Let me know how your test game goes gentlemen and we can go from there,
Hubert

Dear Mark, I just needed to update to V1.11. When finished, I logged in & could not find your challenge (looking for mroyer). Could you please delete it and maybe setup another Challenge with V1.11?

Regards,
Hanno

Yes, I will do that later this evening after I download and install v1.11.
I issued the earlier challenge with v1.10.03 beta, so you won't be able to see it with v1.11.

Got Hanno's acceptance of the challenge, made a handful of nonsense moves, ended the turn and it concluded WITHOUT THE -5 CONNECTION ERROR!!!

Hanno, see if you can play and finish a nonsense turn.

Now, on to figure out whether the orig problem was (a) fixed by v1.11 or (b) on my original opponents side.

Also success with me - I got the replay, could save within the turn, load again to continue and the end turn without problems. Each time it was uploaded to the Server.

All done with 1.11.

Mark does my turn also work for you?

Best Regards,
Hanno

I will try tonight Hanno when I get home from work.

Hubert:
At the same time as the successful exchange with Hanno, I did the same exact experiment with my original partner and it still failed with connection error -5. So... maybe the problem is on his end? It seems after he touches the challenge, I no longer can finish a turn and get error -5; he never gets an error - very weird.

Okay, my original opponent, E Quigley, and I have reversed the roles - he put up the challenge and when I tried to accept I get a communications error -4. He and I have played games online before without issue (Such as some of the Grigsby games and other Slitherine stuff).

If anyone else wants to try to accept the challenge to see if you get the same error,
the password is "OwenMaeve".

Hi Mark!

Thank you for your continued investigation into this and with your last test and being able to attempt to connect and join your partner's game I believe I have found the issue as I was able to repeat this error you have discovered. I'll investigate further now that I can see what is happening in my code, once I attempt to join, and will report back my findings shortly.

So I can confirm it is because your opponent has that space in his username that it was causing problems for the code and the PBEM++ server when sending the required network commands. I've fixed this on my end to properly handle this going forward.

Send me an email at support@furysoftware.com and I can try and get you an updated EXE so that both you and your partner can play your games until we have an official patch for this.

Giob,

That sounds like a different issue than Hanno and I were having - you might consider starting a new thread to make sure your issue is not lost in this thread.

Hubert,

We're playing along fine with the "fixed" .exe file you sent to us - but I think I've stumbled onto a similar/related issue.

When I try to resign from an earlier game (leftover from before your fix), so I can clear it off my game list, I get the connection error -5 again.
It isn't a stopper, I just can't resign which is not an issue in the short run.
