power tips
run off mains, disable screensaver and all power saving parts and run of max power, not a standard laptop setup of cutting the cpu in half and running it off a power saving mode etc

laptop again, this time hard drive settings plus a few others
this one also applies if you have a desktop and have 2 hard drives, as windows 10 likes to save the tree's and will put your second hard drive, no matter what it is or does in a power saving mode in a given setting, not good if you like me has steam loaded on the D drive and not have the 0 in the drive letter, as when you try and use steam, first thing it does it power up and spins the drive,. even if your second drive is a SDD, it's still slower without using the 0 in the settings box

are there any references to other 'switches' for the game that can be used in the desktop shortcuts? Just curious... seems to make general troubleshooting easier.

Hi, purchased the game today I've severe problem with lag and scrolling map. Choosing units are also difficult.
My system is Win 10 64 bit also:
Intel core processor i5-3210 2.50 ghz, 12 gb ram with 2 graphic cards in my laptop. HD graphics 4000 and Geforce Gt 620M.
Is it hardware related or win 10 is the problem?
hardware i'm sorry to say and very common error with dual cpu / gpu combo boards / laptops
each app and program needs telling manually which one to use, or disable the onboard, which works on some hardware and on others makes the laptop boot with an error, so it's a roll of the dice, for me, onboard is the slowest, and also makes a medium speed cpu slower and it's making a cpu to more work, add in the card, and the lag and scroll errors vanish like magic
eg Step Three
Code: Select all
https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-components/how-set-default-graphics-card-3612668/
you only have to do it once, and then make sure each and every new game is done, and your sorted and won't have the issue as it will default to the game card and not onboard, good luck

Many of the command-line switches are useful only in program development, are effectively useless for the normal player. But some you might find useful:
[*]-#, or -z#. Runs the game (or editor) at the specified zoom level.
[*]-L#, for example -L3. The # specifies the logging level. The default is -L1. But in order to make use of this, you would need special versions of the EXEs, which we will only provide in private on a case by case and as needed basis. This switch applies to all EXEs.
[*]-W, game engine only. Runs the game in windowed mode.
[*]-T, game engine only. Runs the specified scenario in auto-test, AI vs. AI mode. As in, for example: meengine.exe -W -T Tel_al_Ful_1967.scn
[*]-X, game engine only. Forces NoEncryption. (NoEncryption is now the default for solo games, although not for PBEM. For PBEM, encryption always applies.)
And still others. But they are useful only to us Devs.

Just a little off-topci note to add that encryption is always forced in LAN Play as well, in addition to PBEM. I am sure someone would have asked [:'(]

Thanks for the responses. Windows 10 is up to date, tested with both graphic cards (onboard and the other one) and disabled auto scroll previously. I managed to solve it when I turn off some windows services that I don't need. It is much faster now in both 2d and 3d.

... and disabled auto scroll previously...
For even faster performance, we recommend toggling OFF Options > Smooth Scroll.

I am getting an error on installing the game 2.0 set up. It comes up with the dialogue box
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them. I right clicked to run as admin and still no success
Okay, I did a search and this fixed the problem - disable to anti virus to get it to the installer and then re-engage the anti virus protection. I was using Panda
Method 6: Check to see if your antivirus software is blocking the file
You can check to see if your antivirus software is blocking a file by temporarily disabling it, and then trying to open the file. If you have to temporarily disable your antivirus software, you should re-enable it as soon as you are done. If you’re connected to the Internet while your antivirus software is disabled, your PC is vulnerable to attacks.
Important: Disabling your antivirus software or changing the settings may make your PC vulnerable to viral, fraudulent, or malicious attacks. Microsoft does not recommend that you disable your antivirus software or change the settings. If you have to temporarily disable your antivirus software, you should re-enable it as soon as you are done. Use this workaround at your own risk. To temporarily disable your antivirus software, see Disable antivirus software
