Wow! Haven't played a decent PC Desert War Game since "Operation Crusader" from Avalon Hill all those years ago. Truly enjoying the game so far. Thanks!

For my 2 cents, I am very impressed with this release. I think the command & control and supply are handled in a very intuitive way. It is very obvious the amount of time that went into this. The shock rules and use of armour are novel indeed. All the documentation and explanations that have preceeded the release have been spot on. Thanks to all involved. I do think this will take some dedication on the players part to fully undertand whats under the hood.

Frankly... I'm bitterly disappointed with the release version of this game.

I had my heart set on ROUNDED CORNERS for the counters...sigh, well, maybe next time.

GREAT JOB developers...a truly impressive game. Thanks.

Heh, I can't tell if you are seriously disappointed or poking fun at the people who will use the tiniest issue to justify giving this title a pass.

It's not like there have been a ton of serious operational wargames based in the Western Desert in WWII in the past tweny five years. If you have any interest in this theater of operations, it is a must buy.

I was poking fun at the "whiners"... I got the game LOVE IT and want them to do a Battle of the Bulge using their system and mechanics. Just joking about the "corners"...hehehe

I think people who make decisions based on Steam, well they are certainly limiting their horizons. My hat goes off the designer. Great game. Some rather ingenious conceptions. I am not a Desert guy. I like Eastern Front and Continental Europe -- but I would never limit myself to a theatre or vendor. With this game, the concept of shock value, well, doesn't that sound like it would work great with the First Schock Army in the Battle for Moscow! Seriously, this game has some real potential. The designer was really smart to put an editor. We will be hearing/reading much more about this game in the months and years to come.

i might add the graphics are pretty darn reasonable; the tool-tips are great. Like I said, this game is going places, or I should say, this title.

Not sure why anyone here who has posted deserves the tag of "whiner".

I too find things like the unit box to close for comfort regarding tiller games esp Jisons mods. Yes silly small thing but makes it feel abit must mash thrown together, really this s where I think it shows its original freeware roots that's all. I think the mechanics and gameplay deserve about more that's all.

Biggest issue at the moment is how to configure properly the JAVA executable to deal with DPI font scaling in a way that I can play this on a Surface without squinting... I am pretty sure it will be totes okay on the desktop though.

What issues are you running into? I had no issue configuring this for my SP4, with the beta.

I set my Java executable to override, scaling performed by system.

Hello,

The fonts are way too small compared with the font size I get on this platform on other apps, with the same settings. Also, widgets like radio buttons etc seem to be a bit outsized wrt what one should expect. The layout of some game windows is a bit broken as a result.

DW reminds me so much of Operation Crusader and that is a very good thing. The play seems very intuitive and once you get the mechanics in hand it is a joy to play. Just have to remember to assign Combat+ Supply to the critical HQ's each turn. DOH!

Loving this new game! The fog of war is very exciting in this game. I am learning how to use my Recon units to keep track of a large formation in one of the scenarios. Well, back to the game.

Fog of war is really well done. Something most games do neglect. I find it very important and together with logistics something strategy games can gain a lot of enjoyable depth.

To be honest I tried the free version two times and I never got into it, but this one: Very well done! Good Job, I like it very much.

Hi,

I too am at the stage of having run through the tutorial and read here and there some more. Great game, all I hoped for[:D]. Hope I am not insulting anyone in the team but not so unconventional a system, but I mean that positively. Just does everything exceptionally well[:)].
This is an operational game system that will run and run. Looking forward too many a setting being covered in future. Very high-quality production.
Congratulations to the team!
All the best,
Kip.
PS. Very minor point, unit counters could be smaller relative to the hexes. One could still zoom to get the detail that way if people wished.

Hi,
Am honing my skills by playing just a small section of a complex, major scenario. Will play this section again and again till I am fully there. All I hoped for and more. In the tradition of reviews, a “must buy…” for anyone interested in operational games. If a review of a book on Amazon an easy five stars. An instant classic. Traditional operational game but in WEGO format.
I particularly love the reply frame by frame[:)]. Gives me time to understand how things play out in an entertaining way.
All the best,
Kip.

Disapointing so far, struggling with the game system - sequence of events, 'clunky' interface, something I'll have to get use to..
Trouble is, its the only desert sim out there.
...will be a modders paradise
3 out of 5

I love it. Need more scenarios. Only 1 complaint, wish I didn't have to use the keyboard at all. I'm pretty lazy. LOL

I know that a couple of years ago (before Matrix became involved) the development team was playing round with Eastern European type scenarios. There might even be some screen shots still available on the web.

My hope is that once the sales and demand for WEGO games is established, Matrix will expand 1942 to other theaters and wars.
