They are not recon. Sift the manual for any penalties for small bomber units.

I put 3 and 4 sized Sonias chutais doing recon without any issue.

The normal recon flight is 4 planes, so off the bat you are at 50% strength. Those pilots aren't trained in recon, aren't flying recon planes, so their effectiveness is really small.

My guess is they are failing some kind of check do to being so few planes, or they might be flying and getting no useful data (but I kind of doubt that as you are experienced and would probably see that they are flying in the AAR and this also applies to weather).

I am assuming they are flying from a size 4 runway that isn't overcrowded or over stacked with good supply and AV support.

Are any planes set to rest or some other type of duty like search?

When you use a 2 size floatplane unit - or even 1 size - for recon it does fly. Maybe not always but they fly.

These don't fly either for Bombing. Yes Roi Namur is 4 sized, i also tested them in Truk against Kavieng and other Bismarck Isl. No flights either for bombing or recon.

so I usually downgrade the sub-unit to Nell and re-attach it.

Or just disband it into a Betty unit.

Use it for naval search. I've been doing that for game years. Same pilots the whole time.

Of course YOU would know how to use it, it is a Japanese unit. American units on the other hand . . .

The unit is probably failing a few checks (each reducing number of planes flying a mission by 25%-50% or so) and the resulting fraction is less than 1 - rounded down this would be 0...

Only the avatar. That way 1 Glen squadron in a submarine would never take off.

AFASIKT, Naval Search is not an offensive mission but Recon is. It makes a difference in die rolls.

Does not matter, like i said they don't take off for either.

I have repeated my test with the same setup except I have increased the size of the Betty recon unit to 4 planes.

Edit: Same setup except unit size and it is not Scen006 since one cannot save a modded scenario in an official slot number.

What altitude you out it in editor?

Many if not most air units have alt = 0 in the editor. Seems to indicate a default setting since float planes are at 6k in the game, fighters at 10k and bombers at 15k in the game even if alt is 0 in the editor.

ok, did you employed the unit for more than one day? 1 week for example.
