Thanks for all the replies folks.

I meant AE, though I have played both since the original WitP was released.

It's not the command line switches, I know how to use them and I have tried all relevant combinations and I have tried mixing it with different compatibility modes as well.

The dual boot sounds like the most promising route. I used to use Damn Small Linux many years ago but I expect things have mmoved on a lot since then. Can anyone recommend a good free version of Linux.

Once again thanks for the help.

Hard to go wrong with any of the top 5. Youtube is full of 15-30 minute reviews of each, and they all have a little different interface/feel/. Elementary has a distinctly apple feel for example.

I currently use MX as a daily driver, for about the last 2 years. Before that it was Manjaro, then Mint and her babies and I started with Ubuntu and Zorin back in dialup days. WITP AE runs fine on them all.

You can go to distrowatch.com and read about them all.

This may be waaay out of line PoW, but are you sure you are using the switches on the correct shortcut? They only work on the one that immediately starts the game; not the one that starts the menu where yhe update and manual options are. If this sounds like personal experience, welllll

We could consult the Oracle.

Or...not as fun but quicker... if you could meet us half way and provide some evidence of "graphic issues" and your settings.

The response time will be solved within WitPAE.

The graphic issues are probably coming from outside of WitPAE, with some influence from the switches.

I've seen the taskbar settings, and the screensaver(especially the slideshow) causing problems for people.

Or meld with a different OS

No way, there is a "magic" set of switches that WILL make this game run for you.

I tried everything and finally I have hit upon my own "magic" set of extensions (not windows 10, though, but might work for you anyway).

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -fd -dd_sw -deepColor -fixedArt -SingleCpuOrders -altFont -skipVideo -px1024 -py0768

Try lowering your screen resolution to 1024 by 768.

If all else fails, the simplest next action to do is to install VM - VIRTUAL MACHINE on your PC.
It is a VERY simple thing to do and then WITPAE will run on Win XP [:D]

Keep in mind that people do have Win 10 and WITPAE DOES work for them - and it WILL for you.

One last thing - I found out that I can only run 1 turn per session. The next turn the game becomes sluggish, map scrolling is sloooooooooow, game hangs when reporting a battle....

But for 1 turn per session, WITPAE works great for me. So do my planning, run my turn, [edit: don't forget to SAVE!!! [:-] ], quit, restart....
The joy of an ancient game engine [:D]

Try a numbered -cpu# command like -cpu2 with the -SingleCpuOrders. I found that if I run one without the other I get sluggish sequential turns after turn 1 or sluggish graphics. I forget which causes which. When used together, a lot more responsive input and graphics.

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -SingleCpuOrders -cpu2 -deepColor -dd_sw -altFont

At this point I am almost afraid to touch it [:D]

Thanks Makee, I will make ANOTHER shortcut and do that.
NEVER touching the shortcut that works, NEVER [8D]

@Makee...

Nope, did not work. Bad juju, 1st turn works great, subsequent turns extremely sluggish.

WITPAE is magic, it is not logic [:D]

Not exactly Churcillian of you to admit defeat.....why not call at computer shop or pawn shop and by a cheap old computer with pre-W10 software? I'm guessing the issues are more with your computer than the game. Even a Ludite like me managed to move into W10 without hideous problems.
