Hellen, did you start with 'Tension' or 'Sudden War'? If Tension, on what game turn did the war actually begin? There are many Soviet reserve forces that arrive in the Off-Box Military Districts, where have you decided to send them?

Good start!

Sudden, but we really didn't begin hostilities until turn 3 I think...

Sarmellek AFB is destroyed.

Soviet forces move to besiege Vienna.

1st Czech Army moves to close the noose and sever the rail line from Linz.

NATO seems powerless in the face of the WP Juggernaut.

NATO finally gets some gains. Small gains, but gains.

Vienna is cut off. The US 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions attempt to link w/ 82nd Airborne at Linz. If the Italians don't send reinforcements, Austria will be overrun.

Italy's III Corps arrives to defend Graz; US moves in with Armored, Airborne, and Marines at Linz. NATO VII Corps fights viciously to avoid being cut off at St. Polten.

Italy's III Corps arrives to defend Graz

... of course, to get that assistance, Austria had to renounce all claims to South Tyrol [:'(]

Cheers

I am not familiar enough w/ supply to know, but I can post a picture of what the supply levels look like around there if that would help.

Vienna ... Wiener-Neustadt ... St. Polten ... all fall silent under the weight of the Iron Curtain.

The Fr. 11th airborne is obliterated. The Warsaw Pact seems unstoppable.

With Vienna now securely under martial law, Soviet / Czech / Hungarian forces pause to resupply.

----

[ooc: we cycled through a few turns, allowing my opp. to get the Italians better prepared while I hoped for an Austrian surrender from the Event Engine. The Austrians did not surrender...
... even so, the sticky point for my opp is, that he cannot leave the WG border / Fulda Gap etc. to reinforce Austria, b/c WP guns are pointed directly at NATO there point blank {and at Berlin, too, of course ... and Hamburg ... Hannover ... etc.}]

July 30, 1979:

ASC Rogers is called to an emergency meeting on the hot line to Moscow.

Kosygin: "Withdraw all NATO forces from Austria. Surrender the assassins and their aides, along with our materiel, and we will forgive Italy's indiscretions."

Rogers asks for time. "24 hours."

Hostilities resume. Having reloaded and repaired, the WP makes mincemeat of the US 1st and 2nd armored divisions. Italy, it seems, had enough firepower to send the Hungarians back to deal w/ the US 1st Mech division dug in around Sarmellek.

The advance continues. British SAS attempted a weak show of force, but were easily repulsed after only disabling a SCUD.

ASC Rogers is relieved of command. On the literal verge of retirement, US Marine General Louis Wilson Jr. agrees to appointment as Supreme Commandant of all NATO forces.
