Yes, most of the collection is outside. Get there before summer.

Has anyone been to the Army Field Artillery Museum at Fort Sill? I don't get out much anymore but I'd like to see all the self-propelled artillery they have there and it's not too far away.

Been there several times. If you want to see their inside museum collection the last time I went its by appointment only, otherwise its closed.

Also if you're going, try to make time to visit the 45th Inf. museum in OKC, if you've never been. Lots of good stuff inside and out.

The museum in New Orleans is pretty good - I went with the wife unit so was not able to spend as much time as possible there. Also was not able to see the PT boat that they were working on making into a runner again. The museum also has a fair number of WW2 vets who volunteer there.

All that said, New Orleans is a must visit city if you get the chance. Bourbon street is 'interesting', but better venues off a couple of blocks to the primarily Eastern side of Bourbon. Food is generally awesome - music ditto - I plan on getting to Jazz Fest at some point. Lot's of interesting tours, haunted evening walk, cemeteries, etc. And you can stay in one of the smaller 'boutique' hotels for a reasonable rate (no swimming pools, gyms, restaurant, room service, etc - but if that's what you are looking for in New Orleans you're missing the opportunity).

Caveat - still high crime rates in certain parts of the city but easy enough to avoid.

Regards,
Frank

I hear the museum in New Orleans is pretty good.

Went there over a decade ago while in town for a conference. It was excellent. Well worth the trip.
