I had problems with Russo German war game. Is the new game interface much better?

Ron Dockal is (in)famous for his unusual interfaces. However, he managed to refine the UI for WWII without compromising his “vision”. Remember to turn on the “Game Assisted Cursor Moves” in the Option menu (the in-game one). It changes everything for the better.

In a way, moving from TOAW (and other games with similar UIs) to Schwerpunkt WWII it is like moving from a PC to a Mac (or viceversa): once you learn the quirks of the specific interface everything will flow smoothly.

I can concur. The way his games function is very different. It takes some time to get used to and many people just give up. But once you understand how everything works they are great fun to play.

I agree here too. I used to play RGW back when but when I saw how far WWIIe has progressed I picked it up and it does take some getting used to the interface and how to play it but in my opinion its worth the price.

Its very much like board war games, same with DG CWIE2.

Both are different interfaces than say SC3 or TOAW but that does not make them bad war games.

I started the game and figuring out how to get the map up. Manual available? Not on computer now

Here is the deal with the help system. You can access the help files from within the game, however this site has an updated version; look for the link at the bottom of this link that says:

WWII-E unofficial manual (Updated)

That is not a bad manual.

Like others have said it takes some getting used to (the interface and game mechanics).

I have played Repulsed at Rostov twice now and am on turn two as both sides, my "report card says" German C+ and Russian C-.

Denmark 40 is another good scenario to learn the rules. It has only a bunch of units (about 30-35 for each side). But, if you play as the Germans, you have land, air and naval forces to manage - so it is good way to learn the various parts of the system in a small and well defined arena.

Thanks for the link [&o] All the new features Ron implemented since the game was published called for an updated manual.
