WOW! I really couldn't believe this one as Mundy moved his carriers to a position NE of Rabaul, just 12 hexes from Truk where we had 3 Nell units plus a Zero Daitai on escort... 72 Nells launch, 60 of them fail to find the target... WTF? AE strike routine is just so borked... 5 Nells are shot down by the fighters and the rest can't hit the two targetted carriers... not that there would have been an afternoon strike...[8|]give me just 40% of the bombers that launched from Truk and the enemy might be down one or even two carriers now... how on Earth have the Japanese managed to sink Force Z with all those bombers in one strike? Haven't they heard about the realistic strike routine of AE?

we now have a level 3 airfield on Borneo...
we lose 20 aircraft for no gain today and the overly careless move of the US carriers towards Truk meant nothing... I doubt the enemy will move further North though, I fully expect the carriers to retire... having those two CVs in the area makes invading Rabaul impossible for the moment... when the carriers arrived on the scene I had a convoy just one turn from unloading at Rabaul so that was quite some bad timing for me... if the US carriers stay in the area I expect an evacuation of Rabaul but I'm not sure if those troops at Rabaul are really worth an evacuation operation...
