What I don't follow here is that Interdiction seems to allow for an almost unlimited number of attacks (ie every time any unit moves and after every round of combat); and at least in the case of Market Garden there are no AA losses or AS intercepts.

Is that not a bug ?

For Market Garden it unbalances the scenario because the Allies have too many aircraft. But probably there are too many aircraft if they are being used for Combat Support too.
So looks to me like there are two separate issues here. But am new to this game so maybe not understanding something.

We are talking about a scenario where one side has total air superiority and the other side has no aircraft, so I don't think that the results are a bug. It seems to be more a case of being probably not the greatest scenario design for play-ability, combined with using the wrong Game Option [NTOR].

I have played this scenario, and West Wall Holland and Westfront and all three have similar situations but I've never had reason to suspect a bug somewhere. If you play other scenario's where air forces are more equal on both sides then there are different results, with Interdiction resulting in Interception and Losses.

If there are interdiction air bombardments of non moving units at any combat resolution then regardless of what set of rules you are using it is bugged. There should be zero interdiction bombardments of non moving units at any combat round. The only time that should happen is at the end of the turn. Thankfully it will be fixed.

That happens all the time with interdiction as it is now. I just watched it happen. No movement AT ALL. I assigned 1 missile barrage from one non-moving SSM unit. A different non-moving unit was interdicted. That was combat round 1.

Same thing happened in combat rounds 2 and 3.

Happens all the time. Hope it is fixed someday.

There is nothing to support the opinion of some that this is a bug. Some will make up stuff to support their own opinion, but that doesn't change that it is only their opinion. What Bob has coined as 'opportunity attacks' have occurred since they were implemented in ACOW. It is more proper then to form the opinion that if these opportunity attacks are not found in the manual, that it was an error of omission. It doesn't make any sense to assume that Norm coded in a routine for Air Units to attack static targets and then call it a bug. No sense whatsoever. But then again, there are a few folks here on this forum that generally have no idea what they are talking about yet spout off as if they were the god's of TOAW. Hopefully they have little influence on the general public, I know they get no run from us veteran's.

Yes, I remember the discussion and the explanation about opportunity attacks.

Whether or not it is right or wrong, if you find the mechanism annoying (and it is a VERY annoying mechanic to many, for more than one reason),

the easiest "fix" in the world if you don't like it is ...

house rule, no interdiction.

Easy peasy

This is a game and it is supposed to be fun. Interdiction is not fun. It *could* be fun, but as it is, it is not fun.

a routine for Air Units to attack static targets

Okay, TOAW is a game. But IRL, air units prowling for targets to attack don't attack only moving units. So hitting static targets, as a general concept, is okay by me.

Dunno. I've thought for a while that the air ops in TOAW were on the hyperactive side. Being able to pull in the ranges is a good option.

In the best of all worlds, a redesign of the air ops would be ideal -- but the coding effort would likely be heavy and generate a bunch of bugs.

Cheers

Except that we've been told that there is a comment in the code describing how these opportunity attacks take place only at the end of the turn. Unless there's a comment added later that says this was changed I'd go with that.
