Sorry about that I'm always using predictive text and I must have said something stupid or distracted from my work. I was referring to coast watcher reports. Thank you for the note on the ship name that is probably most important.
Do coast watcher reports come up in script we can read like a combat report, or are they only on screen as they happen?

On screen during turn execution (just before the Naval Movement step in each phase) and then they are in the Operations Report for the day.

Okay that's another new thing learnt today obviously I see them on screen but sometimes I'm doing something else while all the boring bits are happening. Maybe I should take them more seriously

Okay thanks for all the tips and advice. Obviously collisions are quite common in a new version of this game they could add a multitude of little things that can go wrong. One thing I would like to see is the chance of detecting ships in port using spies et cetera.

Might not be a collision. In my case i had no other ship in the convoy damaged.

USS Roberts (DE-413) hit a whale in 1942.

https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world- ... eship.html

"Like an omen of some sort, the ship encountered a problem on its first day of active service. After spending time at Boston Navy Yard, her port propeller shaft struck a large whale 150 NMI (280 km; 170 mi) off the coast of Maine. This forced the ship to return for repairs."

In my last game lost a big tanker that way, just sunk in the turn the message appeared.

In a former AI game I had a big Cargo ship (12 or 13 VPs) in a convoi suddenly reduced to 3 knots. So the whole convoi was slowed I could find no message what could have happened. No collission or reef hit (was in deeper water). As well no search plane dropping a bomb. Anyway the ship sank the next turn - this was probably such a "marine accident" but no indication what exactly happened could be found.

The hitting reef and collisions thingies are quite common, but rocks and reefs are most hit by small ships in my experience.

Btw. re collissions I was fed up with the Allies being to aggressive with the CL/DD(Fletcher) fleet(s) and send a big surface force with 2 CL and 20 DDs. So 22 ships with Tanaka in command... however I had already 2 seperate collisions in 2 fights vs. PTs and 3 SCs. The damage in the 1st collission was light in the second miniscule so not so bad.

Sadly I did not catch his Fletcher fleet and promptly 1 DD was sunk by the PTs. PTs are one of the worst annoyances for the Japanese imho. I hope when we finally can build such ships too, they are as good ? Right now the IJN seems to have a whopping of 3 PTs( or MLs)

My first thought was it hit a whale.

Cheers,
CB

Which reminds me of a funny feature in Harpoon - I had a sub detected and launched helis to combat it. Turned out the "sub" was a whale (from the biological class) [;)]

My old PC (Win98) gave up the ghost so a bunch of old games, like Harpoon, are not available to me until I build a partition and then either find in my bits bin a 5 1/4 drive or buy one online. Funny thing is that old PC had outlived 3 newer ones. It died being moved from our old house - damn movers.....

Well if you put 22 ships in a TF you will get collisions.
