If you aren't astute enough to recognize what that means then you likely don't have the mental acuity necessary to be able to take this game on.

How about 36,409 "Buy WitP: AE NOW" clicks on the main page of the game??!!! Sort of says everything to me...
That's cool to know. Does that mean there are exactly that many games bought and as a result, probably that many players over the years?
It's more than I would have thought.

IIRC when I bought the game, I wasn't sure what the price would be in $CDN until I clicked on the buy link. There were three options - download only, download with CD, and download with CD and paper manual.
A lot of people could have clicked on that to check the price and decided not to buy.

Just purchased this baby at 30% off (Halloween Sale) and installing as I type. I've been playing and investing significant time in MWiF for the past 5/6 years but looking forward to putting some (a lot) of that time in WITF-AE. Can't wait to see how that goes. [8D]

Great to have you aboard as it's nice to see one of the more thoughtful and helpful MWIF players taking WitP-AE for a spin. It's a hell of a ride!

To be honest, as much as I agree with the general sentiment of this thread, I do think Jepo has a point.
At this stage, sales of AE have tapered off. There's generally a surge of forum activity when the game goes on sale.
I do wonder if it would not be a solid move to lower the price at this late stage to entice the "looks good but too expensive" crowd in to purchasing.
Can't claim to be any marketing expert, but it makes sense from the community perspective to sell ten copies a month for £30 rather than 5 copies at £60.
Given that digital copies of the game are now a thing (with less costs than boxed), I do wonder why the price hasn't been slashed just to "pump the numbers".

Yeah i also agree that 60$ seems on high side. But if the OP waits at Christmas time or Pearl Harbor anniversary might be a promotion.

Sorry if this may have come across the wrong way. I have a strong reputation for bluntness and tactlessness. [:)]
It was intended as a 'throwing down of the gauntlet" in the hopes of getting your ire up a bit so you might respond to the challenge.
As you can likely glean from the multitude of responses this is the greatest wargame ever made and worth every penny many, many times over. [&o][&o][&o]

Aye. And when you've opened up the game and are grappling with that monster, come by the forums. There's usually a really nice whine here too. [;)]

The way I look at the price of this game is that it costs (costed) the equivalent of two good books on the Pacific War. I've probably bought a dozen of books over the last two to three years on the Pacific War alone. And if fact, one book (a biography on Adm Nimitz) was written in the 70's and another (Shattered Sword) was written around 2000 I believe. So using both price and "publish date" as criteria, this game fits nicely with my Pacific War book collection.

Start small - play Coral Sea scenario for one side, then another. Then advance to Guadalcanal, then to 1000 miles War.
Smaller scenarios leave away a lot of stuff so that you can put your mind to a subset of things. And all of them leave away broad strategic considerations
After you get familiar with the pace, you can try Grand Campaign. It is highly adviceable to read some AARs before that though. There are some newbie-friendly ones too.
