I was a kid during Vietnam. My father, a career Army officer, served there though. He arrived in-country in September 1967. He was stationed in Saigon, as an Intelligence Officer, during Tet, when he was injured in the chaotic fighting in the city. He was awarded a Bronze Star, and made it home after his tour was up. He was never the same though, and died ten years later after retiring on disability. I distinctly remember not wanting to watch the nightly news because they had footage of the war. I also remember meeting my father at the Atlanta airport in 1968 when he came back. Over the next few years, we had some guests from the ARVN, other MI officers, visit us. I think all of them died in the chaos after 1975, though.
I didn't recognize him. He never talked about his experiences, either, and as I was only 16 when he died, I never got the chance to see if he might have opened up over time.
I'm not sure how I feel about Vietnam games, really.

sorry to hear about your dad and what yall went through. That's got to be rough...hope you and yours
are doing okay.
i saw some of that in the USMC. fortunately i didn't go to Vietnam. i just saw some of the effects.
i know my wife has friends and people that she doesn't know what happened to and her dad was one of the last
americans out in 1975...leaving on a boat after the embassy fell. war was all around us the first couple of
years. stories about her kitchen being hit by a bomb in Hue, they use to eat at a place in mountains and watch
the war below them...tracers and what not. that was normal. very difficult stories to part with for sure.
Still hear from people to this day...she and some friends wrote a book "stories that won't go away 1959-1975"
about their experiences in Vietnam. poetry and short stories etc.
I get what you are saying about Vietnam games too...

No I wasn't in it. The closest I came was begin included in the draft for the military during the Vietnam war but my number wasn't chosen. At the time the military were selecting by number.

I'm a Vietnam Era vet, joined the Army in 1974 and was an Army Security Agency MP. I was stationed in Korea with the 146th ASA (Avn) Co. The 146th was in Vietnam performing classified radio intercept missions before being moved to Korea where we continued the same mission.
