Does not happen to me with latest beta 8U1.

Just tried to re-install v1.00.00, then upgraded to 8U1

Got the exact same error message (Beta has expired) than with 1.00.071 but the game didn't crashed so I tried to connect to the PBEM sever only to get a new error message :
"error in one element of JSON array. First key element of the array is numerical"

On the other hand, playing against AI is possible with 8U1

Well...I decided to try the Matrix version. Updated it with the auto update to version .71. I still get the same error message only this time it is upside down

Thanks for that. I hadn't come as far as patching the W10 yet. Will try to run PBEM on W7 instead.

The upside-down image add some flavor to the mystery.

I could start our game and will now play the turn. Report to you soon.

Successfully completed PBEM turn with 8U1.

I get the same error. On W10 using the Steam default version and have never had any beta installed. In fact, I will never install a beta for this game if they are not pushed out through Steam. The days of manually extracting files should be a few years behind us by now.

Was thinking the same thing, but then he only have to wait 12 hours to have the issue fixed.

Same issue here. Tried on Steam and direct download. Not really interested in downloading a beta from a different site. I hope Matrix is going to fix this soon.

My co-player couldn't fix it either. We just gave up.

The fix is already with Matrix for both versions.

I forgot to turn off the beta flag on the official.
