TOAW also has a limit to how many units a formation can contain. When a division is broken down into it's constituent battalions it could well exceed that limit. So that forces the scenario designer to put each regiment into it's own formation. There is no method to highlight units in different formations that themselves are part of a larger formation.

To Curtis and Lobster;

I see, so taking into account divs, regts as separate formations AND especially Lobsters comment, re; reformations in formations.....

Q- how does that effect(affect) for example command and control. Arty support, supply? A formation inside another formation, but really, a 'separate' formation?
Can it/they, the 9 bns of the 3 regts, each their own 'formation' but nested under the parent Div., make the same claims on all the Div. assets?

A game example; After playing 18 turns of this scenario, I was so frustrated at a complete lack of Vietnamese Div. arty support I started watching and playing both sides.

C&C is 'On'.

The Chinese army/Div's seem to get 90% of the possible arty sppt. in every defensive possibility and they have many of their units way back at the extent of their range.

The viets? Ive seen turns when they got, from a sampling of 20 possibilities maybe 3-4 units to fire....no exaggeration. Yes they are in supply, and in C&C, within 7-8 hexes, (what are the command radius's btw? )

I even clumped all of the Div. arty into and around its div HQ,( not tactically smart and unplayable really) the number of units firing didn't change appreciably, maybe a small bump in defensive fires per unit chance.

Take a look at the Force Communication settings. Per 8.4.1.10 this plays a part in whether artillery will support.

Thank you RB....the elec. sppt. for both forces is 33, the Force Commo. is 100.

Make sure they are in a deployment that allows them to support: Dug-in or reserve.
